Warranty info that I would like to compile and start a sticky.I pulled this from another thread:Quote, originally posted by bdragger »I checked out the ftc website you posted (
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline...y.htm). Then I checked with my owner's manual. Sure enough, GM left themselves a written "out" for the 3 year/ 36k warranty. To paraphrase, any modifications not installed by a GM dealer can void the warranty. The odd thing is that I only took the factory speakers out of the rear doors after talking to a pontiac service "advisor". He told me that if I replaced the factory speakers, the problem may go away. If not, "come on in and we'll check it out,". Well, with the exception of being a potential warranty issue , his advice was solid...Now that I've been denied warranty coverage, he says I can re-install the original (toyota) speakers and try to "redeem" myself. OF course, I drilled out the rivets and snipped off the factory speaker wiring harness in the process, so my modification would still be obvious to anyone upon opening the door panel.I'm posting here only to reflect the same situation. Pontiac has told me if I remove the aftermarket wiring for my supercharger and the wiring for my aftermarket alarm then they will do everything they can to get whatever is wrong with my Vibe fixed under warranty. It would appear that they do have the clause that authorizes them to disallow any aftermarket parts as far as warranty is concerned, but they seem willing to work with you as far as removing those aftermarket parts and then allowing it to be fixd under warranty. I guess as long as they can say it appeared to be in stock configuration when the received it, then they can still claim it under warranty, regardless of what knowledge they actually have. This can be good, however, when it comes to a situation like mine, removing that stuff can be very costly, not to mention reinstalling it after the warranty work has been done. It would seem that they are taking this approach in more than one location, so maybe this is just the way they are going to do business. I just thought people might need to know this.
