I was going up a bridge onramp and all of a sudden the engine just died.... It will restart but imediatly die's... no CEL or nothing.. nothing under the hood looks wrong.. It's now sitting on the side of the road because Pontiac Roadside assistance does not have a service provider in my area!! what a rip... any suggestions or idea's? I will have it towed to dealership towmarrow.. just wondering if anyone else had this problem...
That sucks and I feel your pain! I hope you get it resolved quickly and painlessly. That is also pretty crappy about Roadside Assistance. I'd be talking to someone about that!

stupid question I know, but somebody is going to ask it, so I will and get it over with. Did you run out of gas?ok, that's over with. Does suck about the Roadside blowing you off. I took it for granted that when you called them, somebody would come. Maybe there is some fine print that gives them an out. I wonder if they used to have someone provide coverage there before the hurricanes. How is your area doing on the recovery?Let us know what the dealer says is up with your car.
Not a stupid ? but everyone has asked me... yes it has gas I filled it yesterday with 93 Octane Gas... and our area was not hit hard by either hurricane so we are doing fine... there are 3 tow services in the city I broke down in but Pontiac does not have them on there list so they can't call them... its messed up... I am about to call dealer see if they have a tow truck.... later..

I suspect that it is easier to find the cause of a car stopping completely than the reason why one is just not operating as it should.

Update : I called the local dealer and they were closed.. so I called the dealer I bought it from ( about 50 miles away ) and they were open and gladly came got my car free of charge... I guess that is why we have bought our last three cars from them... but I will find out sometime monday what is wrong with it... I'll keep yall posted..

I'm doubting the MAF as well as it usually still runs, just not right. And as for the cost of a MAF, you can get them for like $100, so it's not THAT bad. Good luck and let us know what happens!

If your car is at 19k miles... why would have to pay a dime for a MAF?3/36k warranty covers everything, bumper to bumper - unless you modified it and broke it.
Quote, originally posted by binary »3/36k warranty covers everything, bumper to bumper - unless you modified it and broke it.Exactly read my signature... I have a Injen CAI so that would be cause for them to say that part is not under warranty.... but the dealership I bought it from is kewl.. so they might not do that to me.... but they could ya know what I mean... : edit : oh and if they find it not under warranty becaues of that.. they can charge me for the tow truck and the labor to look at it.. so it can end up being alot of money..
UPDATE Dealership just called... they are replacing the computer!! They say they are getting no responce from the computer at all... they say they found 3 loose grounds ( 2 mine on my ground wire kit and one under the dash ) they don't know why the computer went out and think it might be the loose grounds... but are not even sure on that.. but ( I told them.. I never herd of a ground shorting something.. because if it does not use that ground it will just use the next avail one. ) but anyways .. its compeltely under warrenty i will just be without a car for awhile....
glad they are replacing the part under warranty. kind of odd? is right never heard of a PCM just up and decide not to communicate. They might be right about the ground causing the initial problem of dying on the highway. you'll be back on the road in no time.
Anouther update... Dealership just called.. ECM did not fix problem.. and I quote " we don't know what the hell is going on with it " so I might be out a car for awhile... but I am getting a rental.. waiting for enterprises to pick me up right now... I will update when I get more info....

Didn't make sense, so not real surprised to see that wasn't the fault. I wonder how they determined that was the fault to begin with? Let's hope they can figure it out in a reasonable time-frame!

Well from what they told me.. they were not getting any responce from the computer ( ECM ) so they decided to change it... but I am not to worried.. about the time frame.. they have to keep me in this rental till they fix it.. I am just wondering... what do they do if they can't fix it?

I've had in the past run across incidents were no info could be gotten from the ECM, turned out to be a problem with the fuse for the TECHII plug. Though that will not stop a car from starting or running...Keep us informed.

Update Ok they fix it but they don't know how or why.... they say it was the ground wire's but that BS and they say it needs that sensor that you take off putting the CAI on that controls that little flapper valve.. but that's BS also... but they are not charging me for what they don't know what they did so I am not going to complain...

Weird, seems typical of Pontiac though. They did the same thing with mine.

Possibly, but if that was the case what caused the fuse to blow to begin with??? That's why I check stuff like that on my own before it goes to the dealer, then you don't have to worry about their crap. Still, if a blown fuse was the culprit, something had to cause it. I still don't know what caused my circuit board to fry, but it's up and running and I now have a SS AIC1 as a back-up until I get it installed and tuned, then the TRD will be the back-up!

Sorry I got to this thread late.Last fall when I was trying to get to my wifes' friends wedding, my car also was dying right after starting. After searching like a mad-man for a few minutes I thought about checking the plugs to the Unichip and ECU. Sure enough it ws the plug for the Unichip that was just slightly loose. I Squeezed it together and taped it on and never had any problems with it since.Another thing I was thinking of was the big vacuum tube from the back right of the engine coming loose or falling off. Had that happen too. Except the engine will run really crappy for a few seconds then die. Ended up zip-tying that on.But, I'm sure it was something simple like a loose plug going to the 'puter. Glade your up and running again and didn't have to pay anything!

Why the H they think ground wires would have anything to do with anything unless they were shorting to a hot lead to ground is beyond me. Sounds like your dealership's service department is about as smart as mine!
