If I lived up north, this would be a car that I would own. The AWD and the power is a good combo. Down here in the south, I'd have to look at the G35 Coupe, 350Z, RX-8 as RWD is a more exciting platform in general.

too much green for a sube? I dunno... I'd love to take on a few $75k M3s with a $35k sube and see what happens!Hehehe, I just love underdogs that kick.

so, i'm coming back from an appointment this afternoon, and i walk by a parked STI in the lot. someone has a silver sedan sti in the building... i'm so jealous. it's sweet (with the exception of the fugly spoiler).
Someone here at work just got a silver STI. It looks pretty sweet and personally I like the spoiler on the STI and the Evo. Just on these cars though. I think on other cars that aren't supposed to have it look dumb.

I'm more of an Evo VIII fan rather than the Wrx STI. I know the Wrx has a few more ponies, but the Evo has much better handling, especially at higher speeds.Sadly, when I was getting my new car I was strongly considering either an Evo VIII or a Wrx STI, but I chose the base auto Vibe on impulse. Don't get me wrong I love my Vibe to death, but my base automatic leaves me fantasizing about the power difference if I had had stopped by a Mitsubishi or Subaru dealership first. (At that time I had enough green to buy 3-4 of them at 18 years old, and yet here I am broke >
Cross shoping Evos and STi's with Pontiac Vibes, especially a base Vibe, is a funny combination. What were you doing checking out Vibes when you wanted an Evo or STi anyway? They are not even in the same ballpark price wise (or performance wise). If it were me, I'd buy an STi over an Evo. I really would never see the better handling of the Evo because there is nowhere around here for me to push a car that quick to its limits. I think they are both about a toss-up on looks, but there seems to be more problems reported from Evo owners than STi owners. Since all else is close to equal between these two, I'd take what appears to be the more reliable of the two.
when i was looking for a car they had an sti in the showroom those perferated leather seats are to die for they were so comferetable. unlike the sparco or more hardcore race seats which dont accomidate big guys like myself these seats were great and they look really nice too

Handling is good all around, not just for high speeds, but for drifting, taking a hairpin turn, etc. And as far as them not being in the same ballpark pricewise, I had much much more money than I knew what to do with then. Too bad I couldn't have sent some of it to the future so I could have some now.

In my apartment building a guy has a blue STI.The guy is so careless about his Subi. It's always dirty, and it has a big ding already on the right front fender.O and all those nasty door dings too.It is sad to see an exellent car ruind like that.Makes me mad all the time.

I sure had a great time doing all that testing too. A few years later, I sold the thing ('01 Saab 9-3 Viggen, in case anyone cares) and ended up with a Vibe.Call me crazy...but I like the Vibe more. And I'm not just saying that to suck up to the GenVibe mods.

I can certainly understand looking at cars at lower price points to try and save money, even if you can afford a more pricey car. Its just that I would expect to find people cross shopping Vibe GT's with WRX's, not base models. Thats all. Anyone should get what will make them happiest, whether that is a great performing car that costs a lot, or a good performing car and saving thousands. Fast cars are fun, but sometimes its nice to have cash to spend elsewhere too.But its still an odd pair to cross shop!
I wasn't planning on getting the Vibe, I was just starting off at the closest dealership with a couple of cars in mind to look at closely. I never even left the first dealership, but just bought the Vibe then and there. It does seem a rather odd group, doesn't it? Wrx STI, Evo VII, and base Vibe.
I think we are very similar in how we buy cars. I end up always buying the first thing I see when I go to a dealer too! I have to be very careful which dealer I chose to visit first! In the show room and on the test drive, those new cars always seem awesome!
Well, the Vibe is the first car I bought from a dealer, but that's pretty much how it happened. I'm not disapointed in my choice in the least, but I would wish I would have gotten the 5 spd manual so I could tweak it more

Plus manuals are great for people who hate braking . I don't know why more cars aren't offered w/ manual trannies ( and those who are are offen with base engines... not a lot of V8 sports cars with manual tranny). In fact Pontiac is a great example: apart from the Vibe and GTO only the Grand Am is offered w/ manual on the base engine (2.2l I-4 140hp) 300lbs more then the Vibe makes it lame!just my opinion.

I think this really helped me instead of going out and buying the first one I saw.

But its replacement, the G6, will offer a 6 speed manual and a 240 HP N/A motor in the up level coupe! Most performance oriented cars now have manuals either standard or as options! GM is just now getting back to building serious performance oriented cars, and not just rebadged and cladded family cars.
Sweet...I hope they give you some good numbers! STIs and EVOs are both really cool cars. A buddy of mine at work has an Evo...400+ hp with the mods he's done. But I got 330 hp stock, all wheel drive, limited slip front and rear diffs...oh wait...mine is in a 4800 pound pig of an SUV...LOL!

taking the car tomorrow to get another appraisal. hoping to get a little more than the $12K the other is telling me. but since i need a new windshield and the lower bumper would cost $1100 to fix, I suppose I can't be all too surprised! lol. but regardless, I'll have enough for the down payment tomorrow thanks to my wonderful husband! of course, now it'll be OUR STI!
Look if that one place is selling a 04 Base Vibe Automatic with 30,000miles on it for $13,000, they should hopefully give you a good price for your 03 loaded GT. It also has 30,000miles. Ok its a year older but its also Monotone and not twotone. And has the 17" wheel package.

you know what i think is funny the mitsu dealer let me test drive an evo but the subi dlr (who are part of the same auto group and right beside each other) wouldnt let me drive an sti even though i had the mitsu salesman with me and vouch for my ability to drive. i belive they are wear of test drives after some kid peeled out lost control and hit a curb which damaged one of those really expensive wheels. which brings up another question. Are you liable for damage to a vehicle you are test driving.

Well as Hope and I were told by the sales person at the used car dealership Park & Sell when we asked about test driving the STi. The car had a sign on it clearly stating SERIOUS customers are allowed testdrives only. Understandable but before we handed over any money or signed anything we wanted to test drive it.We probably could have but we didn't. Yet he explained it to us how Subaru dealerships do not allow STi test drives. Instead the customer walks in, orders on, pays some money, then when the STi comes in they are taken to a closed course and shown the ropes of what their new car can do and get some driving classes with it.Road and Track picked the STi over the Evo as well though I like how both look, the STi literally has more bang under the hood for the buck.

Plus being the current defending WRC champ cant hurt too bad either....rally driving IMO is theeeee toughest form of racing and those cars are just put thru horrendous torture on all kind of surfaces and in all kinds of conditions.I looked at the STI when I first went car shopping and well..once i looked at the sticker prise I just kinda smiled and backed away....slowly....LOL
Quote, originally posted by russ257 » Are you liable for damage to a vehicle you are test driving. I believe your insurance covers it. At least when I was test driving cars before I ordered my Vibe, they made me produce proof of insurance before I was allowed a test drive. At the Chrysler dealership, the salesman went with me, but at the Pontiac dealership, he let me go by myself. Not bad considering I was 19 years old at the time.
