Hi. I just picked up a 05 Vibe (my first new car!) and I have been browsing this forum and have found a lot of great information. I have decided to try to connect an auxilliary input so that I can install an Omnifi DMP1 mp3 player (like this ) . After looking in this and other forums, I think I have ordered the correct aux connector. I feel fairly confident that I can access the single disc m&t head unit and install the auxilliary converter, but I also need to do a bit of wiring for the install. The wiring for the DMP1 requires a Chassis Ground (black), an ignition switched +12v (red), a headlights dimmer (orange), and a constant +12 (yellow). I found information from installdr.com for the general gm radio wiring connector which indicates that I would probably be looking for a black, a yellow, a gray, and an orange wire in that order. Does anyone know if this is correct? The manual suggests tapping off of the wires going into the head unit, but I am leery about doing that. If I disconnect the radio from power while I do this will I have to go to a gm garage to get the anti-theft code for the radio? Would there be an alternate place to tap into these wires? Should I give it up as a lost cause and seek a professional installer? As a bit of clarification or further muddying of the waters, the DMP1 is intended as a car installed player. The main control panel is shaped like a normal head unit, but has very little depth and so it can be surface mounted if there is no stereo bay availaible ( there isn't). The only semi-flat surface I can find is to the left of the steering wheel, directly next to the rear glass switch. The tiny coin tray and the two blanks pop off easily, so I thought I would run the wire towards the radio through one of those spaces and screw one of the blanks to the controller for mounting. I know this is not an ideal setup because it will not be entirely visible without some craning of the neck- but it will be close at hand. I also have to figure out how to secure the hard drive under one of the seats next to one of the two mysterious boxes. If anyone has installed one of these beasts please let me know!
