painting the grill questions

Post by heha »

I was thinking about painting my grills. nows heres the questions..If I were to do this would I..A> by a spray primer then spray my chosen color?B> just spray the color on and then use a clear coat?C> do all three?Im thinking of painting them chrome, my car color is satallite and I think that would look quite nice.I am open to any other suggestions of color choice.

Yes buy an etching primer from an auto store. Scuff all the surfaces you can, than prime and paint. You can clear over them if you wish but too look really smooth and like glass, clear must be wet sanded and than buffed out. You can still do all three without sanding the clear, many layers equal best protection.

I had mine painted to match the body color. I had the body shop do it when they were fixing up some body damage.

I like the way that looks! It makes the grills stand out a lot more. Might have to consider doing this as well!

I used a two prong approach. For the chrome trim, I removed it separately, sanded with 600 sandpaper, and painted it with Krylon paint for plastic, satin black. For the rubbery grill, I did no sanding, but I sprayed with satin black bumper spray, as the grill is flexible plastic, much less stiff than the chrome. Came out great, looks like factory. I will post whenever I get around to washing it.

Looks great Pablo!! Maybe I will do that too... Need to replace a lower first since a rock took out a couple of the grid lines.
