Some defects already?

Post by gdizzle »

So on this Vibe I bought 2 weeks ago... has to go back to dealer for some repairs. Is this common? The little manual Lock switch on the driver door is useless. It just moves side to side, no click , no nothing. Can't unlock it while running engine. Also at stop lights, the car tries to jump forward, like its jittery (with foot on brake the whole time). And last, on a cold start the idle stays way high and wont drop. Like 2000. Is this common here? hit me back. Love this card otherwise

What year is it? What model? Is it new?

Can't unlock it while running engine. Is this the power lock switch or is this the manual lock knob that you are referring to? If it's the power switch, the *only* time they should not work is when you lock the doors then close them (i.e. you leave the vehicle.) That way something can't find its way inside and hit the door lock switch to unlock. Otherwise if hitting the door lock switch does nothing, bad switch.Quote »Also at stop lights, the car tries to jump forward, like its jittery (with foot on brake the whole time). How fast is the engine idling around that time? Not sure if I've ever witnessed that with mine, but the idle has always been erratic. Sometimes I'll be stopped at a light and it will be idling very rough, to the point where it is shaking the entire car, making everything inside the car that is plastic rattle and vibrate. Take off and stop again at the next light, stupid thing is running smooth as silk. Some of the crackhead things this stupid 1zz does makes no sense to me at all. Yours could be throwing a fit such as that, if so not much I know that could be done to fix it...Quote »And last, on a cold start the idle stays way high and wont drop. Like 2000. Is this common here? hit me back. Love this card otherwiseThat is normal... It's an insanely high RPM to run at, not sure if that's due to emissions or whatever. Just keep the brake handy, you'll need it until the engine warms up and the revs lower, which they should. If the car is at normal operating temperature and you're still idling at 2K, call 1-800-ROADSID and make them come get the thing because it's really got issues. Good luck to you.

the high idle is normal, i used to idle around 2500-3000 RPM till I adjusted my throttle cable.

a 2000+ RPM idle is not normal...Did you buy used? How many miles at delivery?Run a couple of bottles of injector cleaner such as Chevron Techron. Or mabe have a Throttle Body Cleaningchange the oilthese things are not normal, but do happen with some frequency.

This was a new car I bought 2 weeks ago from dealer. 2005, base, automatic. had 60 miles on it. Now has 600. Idle does not drop, even after a few minutes of waiting. The driver door lock, which locks/unlocks the driver door does not function. it just goes back n forth, no stop, no click. what do you guys think?

Take it back to the shop... It should not be idling at 2,000 RPM after the engine warms up.... Mine idles that fast for the first couple of minutes, then it will slow down. The door lock issue is definitely abnormal.Sorry to hear you've got problems. Gee, I wouldn't know what that's like. Let's hope that the dealer can get those issues fixed and you'll be fine from here on out, and don't end up with a car as terribly unreliable as mine. lol

First - Disconect the NEG battery terminal overnight. Then Reconcet start and let idle for about 5 minutes. If this does not solve the idle issue;Take it to the dealer pronto!!!

Take it in and have it fixed ASAP while it is still under warranty!

Ok, did some digging for the idle... An explanation on why the idle is so high: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1186This one has some idle speeds at various conditions: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1038But as was mentioned earlier, if the idle just won't slow down after a couple minutes, that ain't right...
