$240.25 mod.

Post by sloth »

Okay, it's not a mod, just those dang license plates. That state of Nebraska is horrible on taxes. At least the price goes down every year older the car is. The first year it was like $380 (not including sales tax).State of Nebraska taxes about everything except food. I guess this is so you can afford to eat a nice sandwich while they have you bent over on everything else.Enough of my rant. I still love the state, just hate the taxes.

Makes me very happy my state has no Income tax and the car registration is only about $30 a year.

Florida has no income tax? Damn, I SHOULD have moved down there for the summer. Isn't sales tax like 8% though?

That's really not the much more than Michigan's. Michigan's is 6%. But I'd rather be in Florida anyday. It's another close to 100 F day. At least that's what it feels like.Inder

SC charges property tax on vehicles. The property tax bill came for the Yukon last Friday...$1700!! My Vibe GT will likely be around $500 next february.

They call it 'Ad Velorum' tax or something in GA. Coming from Jersey ($38 yearly registration, thank you), to a $20 tag fee + $235 worth of yearly taxes on the car... Yecch.. They base it on 'current value' of the vehicle, which I think they pull out of a hat..My wife's 2000 Grand AM was $130.

My dad just licensed his 57 Ford Fairlane and it cost him like $20 bucks, but his Bonneville was something like $475.

I'd rather have income tax than sales tax. It's a fundamental debate - income vs consumer taxes. Rich people don't buy a proportionate amount of stuff, so consumer taxes are more of a burdern on the lower classes.

Sloth,I think it must be this area of the country because Colorado is the same way as Nebraska. I'm just lucky I fall under the military's "non-resident" clause or I would have to pay a lot more for plates.BTW....GO BIG RED!

they say we have high taxes out here in CA, but I only paid about $150 in registration for my '04 Vibe this year.I guess it's one thing we can thank the "guvernator" for.

The only catch is next year it's only going to be like $50 or less!

When I lived in IL everybody was complaining when they raised the price to $70. I'm like that is nothing and you get to customize it for free there as long as a number is on the end....So of course mine said HSKER 2

Here in Lafayette Indiana we have to pay that nice wheel tax of 20 more a year so other people from out of town and in the counties can have better roads to drive on. Nice, eh?

You want taxes? Come check out Canada (Ontario in particular). We've got sales tax - 8% on nearly everything except "nessecities of life"and Goods and Services tax - 7% on everything. So that's 15% on most purchases.Plus you pay for your plates, plus you get to pay yearly to keep them. That's about $100 up front $200+ if you want personalized plates, and ~$70 a year. That doesn't go down as the car gets older. And of course you get income tax, and all the other regular governmental taxes.I could go on, and on, and on.....

Don't forget the Provincial and Federal taxes (with PST & GST on top)which make up the majority of fuel prices! I paid $ 1.02/litre on Friday for Premium (~ $US 3.10/gallon) and we are far from the highest in the country.

That sucks! Certainly isn't cheap... Indiana is a bit odd, my registration said something to the effect of $300 for taxes/registration but it had a $150 "excise tax cut..." Think that comes from the lottery, but not sure - basically it seems that whatever value the state throws at you, what you pay is cut in half. This year, as with last, I ended up paying $40 above the standard fee so I can have special interest plates. So $190 for the past two years... May have been *slightly* less this year, can't really remember.

I agree. I don't have any pictures of it, or I'd post it. Red/Black hard top. He had one in high school and sold it when he was going into the service. Kid rolled it 2 days later and totalled it.So when he got a chance he bought 2 wrecked ones around 1985. Made one good one out of the two. We had it all primed and wet sanded and ready to paint. Hail Storm came through, hail was larger than baseballs, time to start over.... We have it painted for one year. Hail storm.... start over. This time, built car port first. The funny thing is, is he's missing the ford emblem in the hood ornament so we stuck a pontiac one in there, and you should see the confused looks we get.

Here in Ohio the "temporary" 1% increase in the State sales tax is going to be reduced to a 1/2% permanent increase and the governor says we should be happy that our taxes are decreasing. Then, Franklin County announces it is going to increase the County sales tax by 1/4%, but says we should be happy because our sales tax is still decreasing by 1/4%. Screwed yet again!!! So the sales tax on a $20,000 Vibe will drop from 6.75% to 6.5%. A 1/4% of that is a voter approved subsiidy to the local transit (bus) system where the drivers are considering going on strike because they only make $22.50 an hour and their med ins is 100% paid. I suspect thay also have the generous govt. pension system too.

Just renewed my tags today...My '03 base Vibe was $132.00 ($20.00 registration fee that everyone pays + $112.00 in net 'County Excise Tax' based cost when new and the age of the car). Yup, Ponyota, the Hoosier Lottery proceeds pay 1/2 the County Excise Tax, otherwise we'd get hosed TWICE. (20+224)My wife's '96 Taurus was $41 (20+21) and my '84 Rabbit 'vert was $32 (20+12), the minimum charge.Under this brilliant Hoosier government tax scam (cost when new and age of the vehicle), it'll cost you an arm and a leg to license your brand new '05 Chevy Aveo, but you can license your $3,000,000 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible or your priceless Ferrari 250GT for just $32.00!!!
