How small or big is your dealer?

Post by ragingfish »

My dealer is one of the very few single-brand dealers left in the country. They sell nuttin but Pontiacs. Was playing with a program called "Keyhole" tonight. Let's you see satellite images of everything...Anyway, here's my dealer: Small, yes! But that's ok...

GM is aggressively trying to combine dealerships into Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealers. I ordered my Vibe through Guyler Buick/Pontiac/GMC, a smaller dealer in Middletown, Ohio. The area's last Pontiac-only dealer in Dayton (Rodgers Pontiac) recently closed and was acquired by Reichard Buick, which is morphing into a Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealer. On the other extreme, I have notice a few times in my travels that there have been small-town dealerships that sold all five of the "traditional" GM brands: Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac.

The only reason GM hasn't harassed my dealer into merging with other brands is because they're consistently tops in sales and service for the region...If it weren't for that, they woulda either combined, or gone under years ago...

Unfortunately, that part of Michigan is what they call a "low-resolution" area. I can't get a clear picture of it. This is as good as it gets:

Our Chevy/Buick Store is about the size of everything to the right side of the grass median in the Dan Tobian picture, whereas our GMC/Pontiac-Chrysler/Jeep is about the size of everything to the left side of the median (even though the Chevy store sells more vehicles than the GMC store).BTW, their was a stand-alone Buick dealer in Gallitan TN that made Raging's dealer look huge. They might have had 8~10 new cars, and up to 15 used cars total. GM forced the sale of Baker Buick around 1 and a half ago. There is a stand-alone Buick dealer in Tupelo MS about the size of Raging's.
