initial concern re mileage

I know gas mileage is a controversial topic.I have just gone through my first tank of gas on a manual '05 Vibe. I got 9.6 L/100 km and according to gmacanada.ca site it could/should be 7.9 L/100 km....non-hwy driving. I know it is early but 9.6 is significantly more than 7.9. Anyone else noticed steady but gradual gains in mileage performance as their car matured ?

some people have noticed it improve. The Vibe service manual has a list of things to check if gas mileage isn't what it should be, it's posted in one of the gas mileage threadds here somewhere, but one of the potential causes in that list is if the vehicle or engine is new, not yet through the break in period. So give it a couple thousand miles to break in and see how it does. Some people get good mileage,others never do.

IN our 05, we went from 25/26 to 31/32 since November. We starting running a full syn, and it got warmer, so I'm not sure which caused the biggest increase.

i've never really calculated my L/100km...i usually use the 'trip distance at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and light' distances...one thing i've definitely noticed: when i buy gas at 83cents or higher i get about 50 to 75 km more at each of those marker points than when i buy gas below that price. strange observation that i just can't put a reason to.

i saw a rather significant improvement after the first 1000 miles. i went from 26 mpg (even mix of city/hwy driving) to nearly 34 mpg. then again, i was also learning to drive a stick at the time, so some of may have had to do with me getting used to keeping my foot out of the gas when shifting gears...

Just my $0.02:I've seen a very mild increase in average mpg as the car "matured"; about 1-2 mpg. I started out getting 32-34; I now regularly get 33-36.

I have an 04 GT and I noticed that after about 10000 miles it got alot better. But still in the winter it is worse than the summer. But still on the highway use I am getting about 30 -32.
