battery run-down protection

Post by 21Rouge »

I see that when one buys the Power Pkge Option "battery run-down protection" is included. How does this feature work...and does it work as you expected?

I believe, for example, if you were to leave your dome light in the on position. It would automatically turn it off after a certain amount of time to ensure it doesn't drain your battery. Other's should be able to confirm this as well.

20 minutes I think. Test it out one day. It won't hurt anything. I think though if you are like me and have a rather large system sucking power, if you drain it that way by running the system with the car off for a long period of time or something to that effect it will still run down and die.

I have found that the lights that go on with the door opening will go out after a few minutes if the door is left open. This is not the case with the separate switched light that comes with the moonroof option. That light is not connected with the door light switch.

The maplight is also not affected by the battery run-down protection. It can and will stay on all night and all day, and mine has before, without running the battery down or turning itself off. The only thing I've seen it happen with personally is the dome lights. The radio, as far as I know, isn't affected either because I've sat in the car for more than 20 minutes before with the radio on and the car not running, and it stayed on. However, in my Sonoma, the radio would go off after 20 minutes, as would everything else. Seems Toyota's system is just different from GM's.
