Gosh....I have been looking for this for what seems likes ages.I love the music concert dvd's you can buy and the sound on most of them is just awesome.ImToo is the one I snagged and it works just great. First dvd ripped was David Bowie-A Reality Tour. It's so large I had to burn it onto 2 cd's.Went out to the Vibe...slipped it into the cd player and wow....awesome sound.Just what the doctor ordered.Clean wicked sound. NOw I have about 12 others to do....lol!!!
What app did you use to rip 'em? I've got several DVD-A discs... Even on my crappy stereo at home, *drool!* I'd like to rip 'em myself! A friend of mine tried it on a couple of my DVD-A's but the audio seems to have been missing one channel or so. Just didn't sound right.

I own exactly one DVD-A and I've never even taken it out of the package because I don't have anything other than the TV and my computer that can play DVDs. It was a "thank you" gift from the Linkin Park Underground for being a member during its first year of operating. I have the CD of the exact same album though, so I guess I never really saw much use for it.I'll have to try it now, if I can find anything with decent speakers that can play DVDs...
I ran across this one when I was downloading large quantites of mac software last night. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac3dec/Quote »Decodes AC-3 audio from DVDs, or QuickTime audio, and spits back AIFF, MP3, or AAC files. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. Well, almost. That thing is getting installed on mine. I don't know too much of the ins and outs of dvd stuff, not sure if that thing will work or not, but I'm gonna try!I have a live dvd that I think I'm going to try to rip. If it doesn't work, no biggie - I recorded it very low tech years back - audio cable from the DVD into the line jack on the PC, and recorded wavs which later became MP3's. But if I could get a "cleaner" copy, I'm all for that.

It's not specifically for DVD-A discs.....I'm talking about your regular DVD's that have the video concerts. The one I have is by IMtoo and the version is 2.04. The program you get from thier website is only good for ripping 5 mins worth but if you are resourceful you can find a keygen for it on the net.It rips the audio from the DVD and makes 192-bit mp3's into whichever folder you choose to set it to.And as I stated in my original post....the sound is just awesome. I have 5 DVD-A discs which I never considered ripping using this program but now that you mention it....hmmmmmm.

Granted, going from numerous channels on the DVD-A back down to 2 for the CD, you're just combining all that audio again... But still, the ones my friend made from my DVD-A's sounded awesome - but somehow lost a couple of channels in the process. They had a lot more clairty than the CD's seemed to have, too bad I wasn't getting the full song. Each DVD-A I own, I also have the CD for, so it should be easy to compare...Give it a shot if you have a free minute, let us know what happens! And I'll post back once I get my new machine in that's capable of reading a DVD.

Well I havent tried it yet but on most DVD-A discs included with them is already a downgraded version of a 2 channel mix. this ripper will list on it all the available versions on the dvd.I dont have anymore than a 2 channel cd player in the car so to rip it to a 6 channel would kinda be useless. As you said, you'd lose some of the mix because the player in the car isnt capable of de-coding it.I'll slip a DVD-A disc in right now and see what it says.......AHA.......it wont accept the DTS 6 channel rip but....after that the DTS 2 channel comes up in the audio option box for this particular ripper.Interesting.
