yeah install it just like you should and just put the ebrake on one click. the brake doesnt engage but the ebrake light does. Or if you dont like that idea all it needs to to have a 12v source sou you could tap into any wire that has juice when the car is on and put a switch in so you could turn it off to pass inspection.

NO.The video-enable wire is NOT a 12v wire. Wiring that to 12v will destroy part of the N1.All you need to do is put the green wire that should go to the eBrake to ground. Nothing more. If you want a switch to make it 'legal', go for it.

I have a question. I am picking up my vibe GT in 3 days and I want to get the avic-n1. I went to a car audio place and they guarentee that the install will not affect anything in the car with the exception of the chiming sound you get when you turn it on. Is this the case or are there other things I should be concerned with. I hate the idea that gm will say my warranty is void because of an aftermarket head unit. Secondly are there different types of modules to use with the vibe for attacting to the head units or are they all the same for all models of the vibe and what is the best module for the vibe GT?Please let me know what I should ask gm and the car audio store so that I can ensure that I am getting the best of both worlds.thanksSpyder

Because of it's Toyota heritage, the chimes, as they're so poorly referred to, come from a buzzer within the gauge cluster. Changing the radio does not affect this. At least in the 03 and 04 models. I assume 05 is the same way, but I'm sure you can determine whether it comes from the gauges or the speakers.Quote »Secondly are there different types of modules to use with the vibe for attacting to the head units or are they all the same for all models of the vibe and what is the best module for the vibe GT?Huh?

Sorry if I sounds like I'm a newbie but according to the a few audio installers I have asked, a module has to be linked somewhere between the head unit and the regular wiring of the car as the car's ecu does check for the factory head unit and therefore a module has to be installed to compensate. I understand that a harness has to be used too but that is for the wiring for the speakers and to bypass the factory amp. So please help me understand what I am missing. Maybe explain what is done to install the avic-n1 and what "extra" components are needed for the install. Thanks,Spyder

Again, the 03 and 04 models are NOT reliant on the head unit being installed...they use an atypical GM system that does not tie car safety systems in with the radio...I can't say for sure on the 05, but I suspect it is the same....All you should need is a metra harness and dash kit. Just go to circuit city and tell them what you need...

So you are positive about that as I am buying a used 03 gt? well that makes it a lot easier then for warrenty purposes too. have you changed your head unit yourself? and do you know if the factory amp can be used by the avic-n1 as it has it's own 4X50watt amp built it. what would our recomend?

If it's an 03, then yes, the radio is NOT interconnected with any vehicle systems.I'm running a Pioneer DEH-P7500MP head unit in my 03...As to using the avic with the amp, I yield to Jahntassa, he's the audio expert here...

Argh...this is one of those times ignorance is not bliss.. I'm not referring to anyone here, just the installers you talked to.The Vibe, and most specifically the 03-04' model, is NOT a pure GM vehicle. It's a Toyota. Therefore, there is no reliance on the much despised GM DataBus system for the radio. The doorchime has nothing to do with the radio, the ECU doesn't care about the radio, for all the car cares, there IS no radio. (Once again, just frustrated at how many installers can be ignorant, mostly because that's what I do, myself)Alright, so there's no module you need, period. Now, does the GT you're getting have the moonroof? Does it have tweeters in the doorsails (behind the front mirrors on the inside), is there a box under the passenger seat? If these are 'yes', then you have the Moon & Tunes system. If you have this, then there is potentially a little extra wiring to do.If you don't have any of this, tell the installer you need a metra part 70-2003, that you do NOT need to run a seperate switched power, and that you need a Metra 40-GM10 antenna adapter. If you have M&T, it's up to you if you want to bypass the amplifier. It's NOT reccomended unless you switch out the speakers for aftermarket speakers, however. But, just to sum up and make it simple:You need the Metra harness 70-2003You need the Metra 40-GM10 antenna adapterYou need the kit to make the AVIC fit in the dash (I forget the part number)That's all the parts you need. All the wiring happens behind the radio. You have to be adamant that they connect the reverse sense wire, and the speed sense wire. I don't remember offhand where these wires are in the car.. but if they aren't connected, the AVIC doesn't work as well. You can check if they're connected in the menus of the AVIC after the install is done.Any other questions, just ask, we know a little too much about this car at this point, so we should be able to figure stuff out for ya.
