Forum Upgrade - Feedback Central!

Post by NSimkins »

The Forum upgrade to the latest version of ZeroForum 2.1.1g has been completed. We're still checking out all the new features plus verifying that previous issues with the software have been worked out. You will notice some minor style scheme changes throughout the entire site but the general overall layout remains the same.I'd welcome any feedback, including suggestions, problems, and other comments. Some suggestions may or may not be able to be changed with this new release. I urge you all to poke around and check out the site from top-down to get familiarized with the updated format.Overall I believe this upgrade was much needed and welcomed - from what I can see so far, I like what I see. Current Issues (updated 10/30/04 - 10:00am eastern):Resolved all open issues.

I have nothing but positive news to report! I like what I see as well. Still works fine, even here with my Linux machines. I'm still on dial-up, and I've noticed a significant increase in speed when jumping from one forum to another. Very nice. And the RSS feed is a pleasant surprise, right now I've got a news ticker running on my desktop with topics for a few of my favorite forums. Keep up the good work, genvibe gurus!

I like the fact that when I click on a page number it opens in a new window, thus preserving the search screen I have... so I don't end up accidently closing the search screen window when I click on the page number and want to close that window... did I make sense?

What do you think so far?I'll continue to tweak over the next few weeks.

Thanks for switching 'alternate background between posts' on. That really helped. It was MUCH harder to distinguish between posts this morning when they were all the same color. I echo comments about re-coloring the Reply and Edit buttons if possible. It's more along the line of minor annoyance, but it makes me wonder why would they have changed it!

Here's an idea for the button debate... Myself, I kinda like the new metallic appearance. So, this not only pleases those that may like the new look, but will also add color for those who want that!

I like the metallic appearance too, the text on the buttons is just WAY too light, IMHO. The brushed metal appearance of the IM window is pretty much exactly like OS X.3. So you can't have a Mac theme with Windows XP buttons, which is what those look like. LOL

I thought I heard the upgrade was supposed to allow postings with genvibe hosted images. If so, can't figure out how to do this....EDIT: sorta figured it out. Attach an image to post, then post it, then edit post to link to image URL. Surely there must be an easier way?Did above here:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10533

nope, that what is required. upload the image and then edit the post to make it show up. we went for about a year without being able to have an uploaded image show up in the post instead of just as a link, I'm happy to have the capability back. GenVibe is one of very few forums that will let you upload an attachment at all.

I never even noticed anything had changed until I read this post. I sure feel observant! Anyway, no complaints here on how it looks or works.

Latest glitch I noticed:When I click reply in a thread and post my reply, it jumps back to page one of the thread instead of the last page of it...

Ok, I just got some ideas. These 2 came to mind:What if we had a section (somewhat like the registration area) where all the members can post pictures of their Vibes, like just a Members rides folder or something to that affect. The other idea is a movie folder, where members can post video clips and such. I know many members post this stuff in threads and such, but this would be more of a place where you can go to find all of them, instead of filtering through thousands of threads trying to find them. Just some ideas.

We've been messing with these ideas over the past year but with no firm conclusion. It comes down to limiting the amount of data that can be uploaded to our servers (as to not fill-up the disk drives). For the immediate time, the Registry is the best bet as well as just posting up in the Vibe Lounge w/ pictures until we can get a more centralized area running smoothly. Thanks for the suggestions.
