Trading UP

Post by futseal04 »

Not the Vibe, but the Grand Am. I am getting rid of it and getting a......97 Buick Riviera. Talk about loaded....leather, sunroof, dual climate zones, one owner car and only 80k miles. And did i mention the S/C 3800 engine? THe best thing (besides 240HP) is that it is only $6500. As soon as I get it, I will post pics.

Sweet... I always liked those cars. Plenty of gizmos and gadgets to dork around with. The 3800 is one fine engine, too. Slap a supercharger on it, and it gets better. The folks have a new Impala with the 3800 supercharged engine, runs very smooth and quiet, while being fast as hell...

My 89 bonneville had a early generation 3600 on it...and THAT was impressive...I can only imagine how nice a 3800 is!!!

And they should be good, since, uh, GM's had about four decades to tweak the 3.8 litre into what we see today. Although not that "high tech" of an engine compared to many modern engines, they're very powerful, reliable and efficient nonetheless... Probably one of the best engines in their lineup, IMHO.futseal04, get us some pics of the Riv!

I always liked those Rivieras...that last body style they had looked good. And the supercharged 3800...nice engine. The only thing I didn't care for (and this is a VERY minor point) is that I didn't like the typestyle they used on the instruments on the analog gauges (I think digital might have been an option but I'm not sure). The style and the font were SO HUGE!!! Makes me think of my grandfather, who used to buy cars based only upon the size of the dashboard numbers...he couldn't read small numbers due to poor vision (and yes he still drove...SCARY!!!) so he'd only buy cars with LARGE font instruments.Sounds like a good deal though...nice car, reasonable miles, great engine, great styling. What color combo is it?

Remember the generation prior, 86 through 90-something with the digital gauges and the touch screen CRT in the dash that controlled the radio and A/C? That was a pretty neat idea that didn't last long.

I didn't have a chance to wind out the car since it was raining, but I can tell you that the traction control works well. The gauges are rather large, but I guess that is part of the Buick styling (my parent's Le Sabre has the same type thing). I too love the styling....this car is a light silver (with light grey interior), so it will blend right in with traffic. I plan to put a smaller pulley and a K&N on it, and that will be about all for mods, since my wife will primarily be driving it.All in all, I can't wait to get it. I should have it tonight, or tomorrow at the latest. Like I said, pics to follow.......

Went and got it! I will post pics tomorrow to let ya'll see it.I am already looking at mods. Thrasher Performance has a 3.4" pulley for approx 35 more HP. All for only $70! (Plus $35 rental for the pulley puller tool). I think that, a K&N, and tinting the windows will be the only mods i do to it. If anyone has ideas, let me know......
