Hood Guard & anti-chafing strip ?

I went to see my former mechanics (former, because he was specialized in Honda, when I had one, now as you all know, I switched to a Vibe 2005).When he saw my hood guard (as he was looking at the engine), he suggested to me to add a 3M anti-chafing strip between the hood lower surface and the hood guard (where the hidden screws are).He think that the Hood Guard hard plastic will (over time) rub the paint of that hood lower surface causing rust to set in.Is he right ?Now, I guess I can buy this at "Canadian Tirelire" (inside joke for the Quebecers on this site).
