Dash lights

Post by Mikebabbs »

Thanks for adding me to the group.
Well I have a question. I disabled my drl. I cut the red wire with thin white stripe and the solid yellow. But my issue is my dash lights are still on. I grounded the yellow wire. But still have dash lights on. Good nite the drl are off so what do I need to do to get the dash lights off during the day. Btw it's a 2003.
Thank you mike

You can't turn off the instrument cluster backlight, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see the gauges.

Ok thanks. I was sure that there would be a way to do it
You think that would have that hooked up to the red wire
With the thin white stripe or the yellow. Makes no sense.

To give you an idea of what you can see with the back lights off, turn on the head lights and dim your dash lights down to zero. You can do this during the day and see just how hard it is to see the needles and display. Most new cars that use LED's to light the dash, have them on all the time. It is cheaper to make and serves as a safety device so shading does not effect the operator's view of the instrument cluster.
