Looking to pickup some Scion TC wheels. Have a question.

Post by cptnsolo77 »

The OE tire size is 215 45 17. Can I fit a 225 50 17 on safely ? I know that I will have less tire with the OE size so I want to try to compensate by putting on a slightly taller tire. How would this affect my speedo as well ? Thanks !

Since no one answered....

I have FRS wheels and ran 215/45/17 for a year. Matrix OE tire size for 17's is 215/50. I recently switched to that tire and I regret it. The car accelerates slower and gas mileage is worse. You can use a tire size calculator to see the MPH difference, but 77mph on 215/45 is about 75.

Thx for the reply 8-) I eneded up sticking to the OEM tire size, I didnt want to sacrifice the ride. After 10 years of owning the VIbe and finding a "quieter" tire....im sticking to my formula

My 03' VGT brings 215/50/17 from factory i believe but i'm currently running a 225/45/17 and haven't really noticed any difference in driveability. I've only had them on for about 6 months though but i'll keep an eye out for any change in speed, MPGs, etc....
