GenOnceler's 2003 Pontiac Vibe Base

Post by GenOnceler »

This is my 2003 Pontiac Vibe Base in Frost White, with ~250k miles, that I originally bought around 2013 as a cheap commuter car since I knew they were Toyota's at the core and wanted something easy to work on, reliable, and somewhat utilitarian (the hatch + roof rack got a lot of use). A lot of things I did to this car because it broke at the time and I replaced it with something better (like when I needed a new cat, or when the transmission died) but it's also just something I tinker with constantly and have changed tons of parts on to make it drive better/get rid of old parts. The paint doesn't really have a clear coat anymore and I plan to redo it at some point, but the parts list that I can remember is:
  • 2zz from a vibe GT
  • 6 Speed Transmission from a Corolla S with way less miles than my car
  • Exedy Sport Clutch kit
  • BC Rich Coilovers
  • JNC White 18x8.5 rims (te37 clones)
  • 225/40/18 tires
  • TRD front and rear sway bars
  • TRD Cross brace under hood
  • Injen Cold-Air Intake
  • Tint and Weathertech Window Deflectors
  • Tons of seals and gaskets replaced on the engine, but it's mostly stock
  • Magnaflow Exhaust + new Cat/piping from manifold to back
  • Noise reduction added to interior floors
  • MWR Short shifter
  • Aftermarket radio (but otherwise interior is mostly stock and worn)
  • 2017 wrx lip from Ebay
  • Modified rear hatch spoiler from a VW Golf
  • Modified rear skirts from Corolla S
  • Rally Armor mud flaps
  • Thule roof rack and parts
  • New front and rear brake hardware and hoses
  • Other random parts (CV etc) changed in the process of either breaking or being replaced when doing something else
....it's been taken a part a lot of times 😅

Not a lot actually since they are a similar length and the top of the hatch seems to be about the same height, but I had to do some cutting on the corners to get it to fit around the rack, and meant to go back and fix it up (or get another to do it "right" but I'm too lazy atm and it looks fine from most angles so w/e. It's held on with double side trim tape and some glue for a similar purpose (probably 3M I forget the name but got it from a friend at a body shop). You can kind of see where I cut it here on the top right Image

Nice work. What year was the golf spoiler? Also, just curious if you tried making the Corolla front lip work like you did the back?
Thanks.

Thanks! It's from a mk7 (2015-2020), I had considered it but wasn't sure if I wanted to deal with it since it looked like more work than the backs would be, but I think it would be possible since I couldn't find the same vibe ones for cheap.

Good luck! Looks doable and this one definitely has that same front lip from a Corolla

It's been a bit but uh, I swapped a 2ZZ in 8-) (along with taking some other parts from the donor car)

I thought I was the first to discover the front Corolla lip thing! Oh well. Good job on the engine swap!
