try install trailer hitch=-

Post by jamesmetairie »

2005 corolla ce, (built in japan)

We also have a 2005 vibe

I can get a new hitch for $96. now.

The problem is I don,t see 2 bolt holes on each side. And the 2 bolt holes on the drivers side has the threads busted out on one of the holes. Very weird stuff.
I bought the corolla from the original owner a few months ago .
He said he bought the car new in upstate New York.
He warned me to be careful when ordering parts. He was right.

Are you putting the hitch on the vibe? or corolla?

The vibe should have 3 bolt holes on each side of the "frame rail" back by the muffler. If this is what you are looking at, and where you see threads, it had a hitch at one point, and has since been removed.

I'm not sure about the corolla, but theoretically it should be nearly identical to the vibe in where the bolt holes are.

Found this video showing hitch install on a (pristine) 2005 Corolla https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka-Do2uGBgc

what do you mean by "has the threads busted out on one of the holes" ?

My guess was the bolt from a prior install is stuck in there.

thanks guys

wanting to install a hitch on the (japan built)2005 corolla ce.
planning to hook-up a bicycle carrier to it.
I did have a 1989 corolla with stick shift and a trailer hitch and it worked great.

When loaded just had to be very careful about using the brakes on a wet street.
It just refused to stop and went right thru a stop sign. Scary situation for sure. ( lol )

It looks like the video from u-haul is actually a "2015" or newer corolla.
After viewing several videos online ( 2003 thru 2007) I,m thinking maybe it does have the pre-drilled holes. But for some reason there is bolts mounted into them holes already. Tomorrow I will unbolt them to see if in fact they serve a purpose.
A Curt hitch for $96 with free shipping. I don,t want to miss out on the deal.

Thanks again. I,ll post the results later.

sorry about the 3 years late results.

Back then Etrailer.com said they would not offer the hitch to a JDM corolla. I just gave up .
