Keyless entry and go, without taking key out of pocket?

Post by SeattleJeremy »

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for an aftermarket solution that would allow me to keep my key and fob in my pocket while entering the car and starting it.
BMW, Mercedes, and VW group cars have this functionality, and I found this Hella article talking about it.
https://www.hella.com/techworld/us/Tech ... s-Go-3195/

To make this work I realize I'd have to dismantle the door handles and drill some holes. Trouble is I've not been able to find an aftermarket solution for this capability. Does anyone know of an alarm system or other set of tech that would enable these features?

some newer cars have this feature, my 19 subie has it. Its ok, not gloriously more convenient that a mechanical key. Probably makes it harder to steal the car. I would think that the cost and effort of retrofitting something like that into a 14 year old Vibe couldn't be worth it. Besides the door locks, you'd have to address things like the steering wheel lock and add relays to control the various things that get power when you turn the key. More complicated if you want to retain the key function while adding the fully keyless capability. Not trying to talk you out of it and you know we'll help if we can, but it seems like a big project to me.

What inconvenience are you hoping that such a mod would remedy? perhaps there's a low tech low impact alternative solution.

Thanks for the feedback joatmon. You are probably right. There would be a lot of work to make that function.

That looks like a good kit, they seem to address security concerns.

Thanks Zbyers! That's the kinda thing I was thinking of. It's nice that there is no need to modify the door handles. I won't be investing this kinda money in a Vibe, but maybe my next car.
