Wiring my 2010 with moon and tunes

Post by onesidedown »

The first thing I did when I got the wiring harness (Metra 70-2105), was realize that there were not enough wires and after I found a wiring diagram for my car they were in the wrong places even. so I started by ordering an additional wiring harness and began pulling wires from it to add to the first one I purchased.
To pull the pins the first thing you need to do remove the white plastic pin on the side of the harness. Be careful when removing this because the top of it will break off and you will not be able to remove it. I recommend getting under two sides of it and pulling evenly rather than prying it out.

Once the Long white plastic pin is removed you can remove both the white and blue clips that hold the pins. Be extremely careful from here as the pins break easily and this is why I ended up buying 3 wire harnesses.

After you get the white and blue plastic wire clips out remove the pinned wires by using a small flat head screwdriver or something similar to push back the plastic clip that is holding the wire in and pull firmly but evenly on the back of the wire and it should slide right out

When you get all the wires removed, determine which ones you will be using and mark them so that you know what each wire is going to be used for. I tried to keep the extra wires I added to the original wiring harness somewhat similar in color to the ones coming from the back of the radio I was installing.

When you start putting the wire back in to the wire harness you can either put the plastic clips back into the harness first or put the wires in the plastic clip then put the clip in the harness.. I used the latter to make sure the wires went in as far as they needed to. Just make sure when you put the clips back in the harness that you have the right ones on top and bottom since the clips can go in either way and I would still recommend being careful with them and don't try to force it if it feels like it is not going to go. I used my flat head to widen the hole just a tiny bit so some of them would slide in a little easier. As long as the wire sits in the clip the way they did when you removed them they are fine.

The way I wired it allows the factory amp and the sub to work.. incredibly well I might add. The new radio is 10x louder than the factory one. The new radio does not have XM in it so I can't say if it still works with that wiring. Also, I'm not sure if Onstar works either since I never use it.

This is how I placed the wires back into the harness to have everything connected. I left the Constant and ground wires in since they are the same. These pictures show the back side of the wiring harness that will face away from the wires in the car. Once you get it all wired if it still isn't working make sure you check your radio fuses both in cab and under the hood.

I do believe that I need to figure out a drain wire still since I hear an electrical hum every once in a while though.

Hello,

So the factory OEM harness's plugs into the Metra harness? Including the steering wheel control harness. The oem Monsoon amp still functions? The door chimes/auto dim lights, etc. still work? Any chance I could see; if you had pics, of the factory harness and radio plugged into the mix? It would appear you have by far the best solution without adding modules, etc............What radio head unit are you using? Thanks for posting!

Yes everything still works other than XM and onstar. The amp still works amazingly. The volume goes to 30 and i hardly have it any higher than 10.
And yes the metra 70-2105 plugs directly into the wires that come out of the car. There are two plugs in the vehicle and both plug into the harness right next to each other.
The radio I installed is an Eonon GA2178.
I do not have pics of it plugged in, but everything connected through the radio goes through those two wires coming from the car. So as long as you have the wires in the right places everything will connect.. i recommend only adding the wires that you need for whichever radio you're installing as well.

Interesting mounting arrangement :? Does other dash functions/features interfere with the screen protruding and covering things up? That doesn't look very secure and certainly invites theft :o Curious to see side profile pics. Glad it was a success for you and that it works as planned

The only dash function thats somewhat blocked is the button for hazard lights. As for stability the screen locks onto a bracket that is very sturdy. And the radio itself is bolted in like a normal stereo.. theft is certainly a possiblity though. Good thing i have insurance and live in an area where things like that are very rare.

I know digging up an old thread, but wanted to say thanks and share my findings attempting to install a double din Pioneer head unit in my daughters 2010 GT. I've struggled a bit to get the amplifier to power on with the described wiring diagram. Power to #9 (Amplifier), which looks to be correct for wiring diagram schematics I've seen but did not turn on when powered. Pin #2 (Antenna) appears to trigger the amplifier.

I am using a Axxess ASWC-1 to keep the steer wheel radio controls and are working as expected.

Here is a link to it's install instructions:
https://metra-static.s3.amazonaws.com/s ... ST_315.pdf

I am still finishing up the installation by adding a reverse camera and replacing the 12v cigarette power with USB passthrough connector for the Pioneer head unit and high-power PD 3.0 usb-c port, probably a little over kill but I like the factory installed look.

Doing the same digging! I ended up with a similar Android HU as the OP, but fully integrated into an included trim piece:

Image

The harness that shipped with it is for the Matrix, so I had to buy a Scosche GM18B harness and wire it up myself. Everything is working fine for the most part, but I'm having two nagging issues:

1. There is a very audible hiss when no sound is playing. I've turned off the HU's internal amp in its settings thinking it might help but it does not. Either something needs to be grounded like OP mentioned, or I need some sort of line level converter that I've seen mentioned in other posts.

2. I've been unable to get the steering controls to work. The Android unit does not require a seperate control device like the Axxess as it has a learning/customize control panel in its settings which basically lets you assign a function to each of the SW controls based on the signal received when a SW button is held down, but I'm getting no signal from the wheel. There are two wires on the HU harness (Key 1, Key 2) that are connected to the SW controls on the vehicle harness (SW1, SW2). The vehicle harness has a SW Ground connection as well, but I have no idea where to make that connection. I tried connecting it to the main ground wire on the harness but it didn't make a difference.
