Reprogram door locks?

Post by VivianVibe »

Hello, It's great that the doors lock when you start the engine just don't like that they all unlock when you turn the car off. Is there a way to reprogram the door locks to not open when you turn the car off? Maybe just have the driver's door unlock? Many thanks

Quoting Joatman from another post.

1) Car in park
2) close all doors
3) dome light switch set to "door"
4) key in and turn to ON (do not start) - leave at ON
5) immediately press and hold driver's door lock switch in LOCK for 5-6 seconds.
6) Dome light flashes # times to indicate mode

remove key & repeat 4-6 to change mode.

Mode 1: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever
is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all
doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic
door unlocking.
Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.
Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever
is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all
doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate
unlock when the shift lever is moved to PARK (P) with
the ignition on.
Mode 4: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever
is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all
doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate
unlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON to
ACC or to LOCK. Mode 4 is the factory setting.

That's the dance that works. And you'll have to reprogram it if you ever disconnect or change the battery.

You can also change the setting with the Toyota Techstream software, along with the daytime driving light settings and more. I know this works on the 2009 and 2010 model Vibes.

I haven't heard about changed the DRL settings via Techstream.

Yes, you can enable or disable the lights with the Techstream software. If the car is made for US then enable. If car made for Canada then disable.

Just purchased a 2006 "base" Vibe. I did the power door lock "dance" to set mine to #2- "OFF" mode - no locking or unlocking. The problem is after about 2 or 3 drives the doors will be in a mode that every time the key is inserted or removed the locks go thru a lock & unlock cycle. I do the dance and the dome light blinks to indicate #3, so it MUST have been correctly in #2 -OFF- mode. My 05 never had such issue. Any ideas? thank you......

Is there any chance someone disconnected the battery momentarily?

Do you have radio presets, and dd you lose those recently as well?

I agree. It sounds as if the battery were somehow disconnected momentarily causing the locks to forget what mode they were in.

Did not lose any radio pre-sets. No one is around to disconnect the battery, out in the country. Post clamps are clean & tight. Just a few minutes ago, doors are already unlocked, got in, started and put it in "D" & the locks cycled to "lock & unlock". Drove the car, put in "P", turned it off, locks cycled to "lock & unlock". I did not try the dome light dance to see what mode would blink, but the other times I have, it would blink 3 times. Does that mean it just at that moment ENTERS mode #3, or that it is CURRENTLY in mode #3 ??? When I cycle thru the modes and stop after I get 3 blinks, it seems to work fine for 2 or 3 drive cycles, then is back to "lock & unlock" when I put it in "D" & "P". I just want the auto feature to stay off - I already have to replace 3 door lock units !!! I have the units, HOWEVER, I have since found places that sell JUST THE LITTLE ELECTRIC MOTOR inside the case. Has anyone here replaced just the motor inside the case ??? Anyway, Thank you for you input !

the blinking of the dome light confirms what mode you just put it in.

Resolution! Sorry to waste your time. I had 3 dead lock motors and apparently that was confusing the computer! I replaced both front locks & now have consistent NON-automatic operation. All is good for now even with one back door motor still dead. 8-) Thanks for the input. Really like the little Vibe!

I don't consider it a waste. I need to figure out how to reprogram mine so it doesn't automatically lock the doors when I put the car into gear, and automatically unlock when I turn off the engine. There are times when both are dangerous.

Not a waste here either. I learned that my old Techstream software will let me reprogram mine without relearning the chicken dance every time I disconnect the battery.
