2006 Vibe 5 speed tranny issue

Post by mrgrover »

Had my vibe 5 speed "implode" all of a sudden with an estimated cost of 3400. Didn't have the money to fix it, so it has been sitting for a few months. Well, I started it the other day and low and behold--It went into gear and seems to be working. I haven't taken it onto the road at all, but ran it through all of the gears. Reversed it into my garage and pulled it out of the garage. How can this be? Just wondering if it didn't implode and it now can be fixed rather than replaced? Love my car and I need to get it back! Thanks

first, welcome to genvibe!

What exactly do you mean by "implode"? What symptoms?

Usually implode means significant mechanical damage, the kind of thing that doesn't tend to heal from sitting for a couple of months. It's impossible to say for sure what to do. I guess if it were mine, I'd consider draining the tranny oil and checking it for bits of metal.

I agree with joatmon...Drain the trans fluid first and see how it looks/feels/smells/tastes.

Perhaps the clutch itself destructed, and the trans is fine?
