Question Anyone else ever have crankshaft damper fall apart?

Post by mr2race »

ever have crankshaft damper fall apart?

Purchased a 2003 Vibe Gt I bought a few months ago.
I had been looking for a low-cost 2ZZ 6 speed for a few years

We had a Celica GTS as a pool car. When I worked at Toyota engine development in Ann Arbor. And we would fight over that car when we had to do some running around.

It’s quite funny.
The damper outer ring separated from the hub. And fell off in the driveway. I had no idea it happened. Until I arrived back home. And saw something laying in the driveway!

The belt stayed on while I drove nearly 70 miles. Spinning on what was left of the damper hub LOL

I did some searching online. I did not hear or see any stories about the damper falling apart. Anybody else, thank you

Welcome to the party!

It is not a common issue. I'm not sure what else to add other than to ensure all of the pulleys are spinning freely, and something else didn't cause it to fall apart.
