2004 vibe code p0505 p0171 p0300....

Post by Fatpup »

Hi all. Sorry for making yet another thread on this but really at my wits end. The shop i took the car just keeps on changing sensors. I guess they dont know how to check fuel trim. Have changed o2 sensor <upstream>,maf, pcv, intake gasket, tb gasket,. The car acts like it has a vacuum leak but done leak checks and nothing. I am probably gonna have to bite the buller and take it to a high end shop and pay the high price but thought maybe someone on here might have an idea. Scanner shows p0505 p0171 p0300 p0301 p0302 p0303 p0304.

An excessively lean engine can cause all the codes you have posted. Somethings you can try is pinching off vacuum hoses and see if the engine idle speed changes. Vacuum from the brake booster, vacuum from the emission system to the gas tank, etc. If engine speed changes, you may have a vacuum leak on the device to that vacuum line.

Its an extreme, you could test the intake manifold for a crack and leakage. Did you test the compression on each cylinder? I always like to test and rule out the mechanical problems first. Fuel pressure tested? What is the engine vacuum at idle and at 2,000 RPM's? Engine use oil? Down on power? Idle speed (RPM) and idle speed when A\C is turned on? All these codes may be related or may be caused by multiple issues. Did this happen all at once or has this being going on and getting worse with all these codes?

well you've ruled out a lot, and if you keep the car that will serve you well down the road -

with the whole series of P030x's , does that make you suspect ignition coil more ? did you look at the spark plugs? maybe you fixed an underlying problem already, but the plugs are all scorched out from running hot and lean?

Don't listen to me, I have no idea.

I've not had much luck with my P0171 yet either, but the car's running ok and not misfiring.

just took it too a qualified tech and it is fixed. All he said that some vacuum lines were backwards. Dont think there was much wrong. I checked and double checked all of that stuff but I guess i am not qualified for this. So I paid 100 bucks for diagnosis and another 120 for labour and my car runs like a champ. Thanks for your help everybody. In this case it was worth it to let someone else do the work.
