2ZZGE Valve stuck Open

Post by ReedWolf »

Hey so on my 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT my lift stopped working and the OBD2 scanner said Valve stuck open, What could be causing it to stay open? Do I have to get the head replaced or the valve or what? I've had the car for awhile it was sitting till September 2019 then I started driving it, Thanks in advance!

online I found two OBD codes with the term "valve stuck open"
The first is P2070, Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) Valve Stuck Open Bank 1 but I can't find anything in my service manuals for that one

The second is P2440, Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Open Bank 1. I attached the 03 Matrix manual doc for that code. Since that doc refers to the wiring diagram in the write up for P2430, I also attached that doc

If its P2440, then that's good news, an air switching valve outside the engine is a lot easier to service than an actual intake or exhaust valve inside the engine

and ReedWolf, since that's your first post here, Welcome to genvibe!

Hi thanks for the warm welcome!
I got the OBD test done at autozone they only told me the code was "P1693 Valve stuck open"
As you can see neither of the codes you stated, i then looked for a receipt i got from getting my Vibes misfire fixed and it stated "P1693 Rocker Arm Actuator System"
im gonna look up what could be causing this fault and how i can get it fixed!
Thanks!

That code is for the Variable Valve Lift system. The valve may be this part number: 15330-28020 Check with your VIN to be sure.

I attached the matrix manual section for P1692 (OCV for VVTL Open Malfunction) P1693 (OCV for VVTL Close Malfunction) and also the one for P1690 since it's referenced by the 1692/1693 one.

Hopefully its just the filter in step 3 of the 1692/3 doc needs to be cleaned. That solved 1693 for whitealltrac at viewtopic.php?f=11&t=44163&p=503929#p503929
also see lobi's pics in viewtopic.php?f=12&t=44005
