passenger seat airbag indicator/seatbelt reminder

I installed a new head unit into my 2009 pontiac vibe that has usb inputs. I purchased a USB extension that fits near perfectly in the dash where the indicator should be. If I don't reinstall the indicator display, am I putting my life into my hands? My family 100% wears seatbelts and don't have infants or little people to sit in the passenger seat.

I doubt a disconnected light would adversely affect airbag function, but if you're worried about it, can you leave it connected but just tuck it out of the way somewhere inside the dash? (I don't know the 09 setup or if that's even feasible)
