2009 Vibe, passenger door lock problems

Post by homemadehitshow »

Tips for the best value solution. I am not very "handy"

Passenger door will not lock on the central locking OR inside button press. It will only lock from the outside key. I realize the attenuator (sp?) is out but what is the best value way to go about getting this repaired?

Thanks

So you know the actuator is bad and you want a replacement part? You could start at a local auto salvage yard and see if you can find a used one.

If you are not that handy with electrical troubleshooting then the used salvage yard may be your best shot as the problem could be the master control switch on the drivers side, the passage control switch, the actuator coil, or a broken wire somewhere between all of these things. The car salvage yard would give you the chance to pick up both switches and actuator assembly. You can then just do a parts swap to see if one of these things fixes your problem. Just throwing parts at a problem is not the cheapest way to go but if you can pick up used parts cheap and can swap the parts out yourself, then that may be the cheapest shot you can do to try and fix the problem.

If you do not get it fixed by trading out the parts, at least you know what did not fix the issue when you take it to a shop. You can tell the shop that information so that may help them save some time when troubleshooting, which could save you some money from the shop bill.
