High Mileage Vibe?

Post by TechMaxWare »

Hey everyone,

I have a 2005 Vibe with(as I post this) around 242,000 miles on it. I have seen some other posts on this topic one of which even had about 370k on their vibe. But I was wondering how many miles are on everyone's Vibe's right now, and if/what any of you have had to do maintenance or repair wise with your Vibe's at or around my mileage?

I still take my car every so often on smaller but long trips(such as two hour drives) and am starting to become slightly paranoid on the wear I am putting on my car. I do take proper care of my Vibe and of course change replace fluids and filters as needed.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just an FYI .... there's already a lengthy thread on this topic with several of us noting our Vibe's mileage. It started 17 years ago :o

I have seen other posts concerning this topic. I suppose I was interested in the most recent, most relevant information even considering 220,000 and beyond. After all, our Vibes aren't getting any younger!

Unfortunately I can't really give any proper advice in terms of high milage maintenance, as for it's age my vibe's milage is really low. Since new in 03 she's done only 140k kilometers, which is around 87k miles

I'd maintain a high mileage one like I would a low mileage; with the addition of probably needing some more TLC and new parts.

My 2010, 2.4L, automatic, base Vibe is about to turn 210,000 miles and runs like a clock. Oil change every 5k miles, transmission fluid every 30k miles, air filter every 20k, spark plugs 100k miles. Still getting 28 mpg combined.

My Vibe only has less than 190K miles on it and I still consider it my new car, with no restrictions in mind on reliability. My other car is a 98 Subaru with 220K on it and I think differently of it--local trips only, not for most passengers, etc. I don't do any extra maintenance on it, but I just don't trust it quite as much. If something breaks or starts wearing, I fix it. I am noticing some things are deteriorating with age rather than mileage. Things are getting brittle, like the wiring harness, weather stripping, plastic fasteners, etc. More care and extra work is sometimes needed.
