Hello and welcome to GenVibe! For details on trim and such, check out the Everything You Need to Know about the Vibe thread here or in my signature. Basically, it breaks down like this: 03-08: Base - 130hp, 5-spd manual or 4-spd auto GT - 180hp, 6-spd manual AWD - 120hp (And all-wheel-drive), 4-spd ...
The HIDs will work well as the standard lights with the sensor, but they will not work with the DRLs. And as of now I am not quite sure if you can wire the halos to be the DRLs. It's possible, though. You could see if the yellow wire you cut when disabling DRLs has power coming out of it when the li...
Specs are that close? Impressive. Though very weird that our little cars are considered that small. Though it's more proof that the Vibe was ahead of the curve. And since it has AWD I'm suddenly interested. I'd be more interested if it didn't look like its upper lip was pulled back/missing. This thi...
The rear differential on the AWD is an electronically locking setup which knows the engage when the ABS detect wheel slip. That would explain only the front wheels spinning as you described. Get it checked out, it could be something as simple as a loose or cut wire.
I did the Minis for ease. They dropped right in no problem. And I have TRS warranty on them, and spare bulbs/ballasts. They more than satisfy me. But there are other options out there. My own problem with the FX-Rs is the custom work necessary, which is a little daunting and would take more than a d...
I like! As someone that has done two retrofits (2nd time with Mini H1s) I'm quite interested. Aren't those lights permaseal? How did you open them up? I personally prefer the cutoff of the H1s, but the light spread on the TLs is much lower. However, I'm not sure how that compares to the H1 6.0s I ha...
I like the look of the Auris. Now, throw in Toyota's new 2L turbo and you've got a good replacement for the old GT. Waitwaitwait - Toyota finally got with the program and put a turbo to one of their engines? I KNEW the CVT was the harbinger of Toyota evolving! Finally. Maybe the next Corolla won't ...
Tire size helps ride height. Specifically, more sidewall, more sidewall flex, thus more padding. However, you can get 15s with stiff sidewalls, so ever just a touring or GT (grand touring) tire will help. That said, your best bet is to go down a size to the 16" rims, and get some comfy tires. I...
Compact crossovers bug me. Weee, it's a crossover, not a lame wagon or hatchback! But... Lower it and you get a hatchback. But then they narrow the rear roof to make it seem taller and cut down on its practicality and ruin the hatchback look. I'd much rather wait for the Scion IM. It's the Toyota Au...
I thought most of these engines needed to be LOWERED out of the car instead of raised? The wife's G8GT needed a new camshaft in the 6.0 litre engine and it needed to be removed from the bottom! Maybe it can be removed either method. Hope it's a long time before I have to do this. Looks good so far....
Are you talking about the little piece that goes across to reinforce over the exhaust tunnel? Because when I was under the car it hardly seemed like a brace. Far too weak. The best way to find chassis braces might be to look for Ultra Racing Toyota Altis braces. In Thailand the Toyota Corolla was ca...
Any junkyard at all which has a Vibe will have the bolts for the headlight, even if it got smashed. I was at Tiger Auto Salvage, and they had two Vibes. One had a smashed light, but the mounts were still bolted to the car. Free bolts!
Bearings are a pain because, even if you're a DIY'er, not everyone has a press, and the front bearings need to be pressed in and out. My front left went somewhere around 100k. Others seem good. I'd ALWAYS get the more expensive bearing of the choices. At Advance we sold National bearings, and they'r...
Welcome to GenVibe! My Vibe is my first car, too. You won't find a lot of aftermarket (you especially with a second gen) but that just means you can make it your own!
Thanks Carrie! I drove by Chicago the other day and would have sent you a message had I not been in a rush, or so sure you were working. Awww man... an impromptu meetup and photoshoot would have been fun :D! Next time! There will be many next times, especially since I'll be driving through that way...
I would love to do this, but from posts I have read the HID kits seem unreliable. If I were to take a project like this on, I want plug and play & not have to mess with a tempermental lighting system. How reliable has your HIDs been ? It seems like a excellent upgrade. After 11 years of technol...
Welcome to GenVibe! That's a good amount of miles. My 04 base auto has 128k (a young girl), and a friend owns an 03 GT I want that has 190k. No worries about either of them. Are you still on your factory transmission? 03/04 5-speeds had issues with bearings going. If it's still good than that's impr...
Hello once more kind Vibe people! A lot of people have asked about my projector headlights, and since I just did another set (posted at the bottom of the page) I thought it would be a good time to do a writeup! You'll need a few things for this: Phillips head screwdriver One/two flathead screwdriver...
When I loaded the car up for college the suspension dropped a good ways. Acceleration wasn't quite what it was when unloaded, but if I had made the transmission downshift (automatic) I would be on par. But once at speed it shouldn't make too big of a deal. That said, it's still stuff you need to car...
They're only $18-20 from a store like Advance Auto Parts. Little cheaper if you order online, but the guys at the store appreciate it if you stop in and buy it like that.
Well, I don't have an AWD but I can tell you this, the rear suspension setup in the AWD is the IRS double-wishbone set from the Celica. This, the floor pans are a little different, and trailing arm mounts are completely off. What's the purpose of your inquiry? IRS swap? AWD conversion? Both are NOT ...
Welcome to GenVibe! Looks like you've done a lot to turn this Vibe back to glory. I've heard several owners say things about the leaky timing seal, rotors are easy to replace, and speakers may just be blown. Take care of that Vibe and it will pay you back with miles and miles of service!
They used the same automatic for the AWDs from 2003-2006, so any of those should work. I believe someone put an 06 into their 03 some time ago. But you need to make sure it's the MU5 AWD transmission, or you'll have made your car FWD on accident.
The Prius rims are nice and lightweight, but if they aren't 16's then I'd pass. 15's on our cars look a little ridiculous, and would need new tires anyway, which wouldn't be as sprightly as the 16s.
There was the GT-R as kind of the introduction concept for the in-house aftermarket, the Autocross model, Rally-Cross model, GTP concept (which probably was the design test for the flat grille), and that's all I can remember....
As soon as I figure out that trick I used to get the pictures off my Ipotato... In the meantime, I'll link to the GV FB page. It's an open page, so you should be able to see them.
