Re: Can someone confirm valve cover gasket?

Just pick up the valve cover gasket from your local parts store. Pretty sure the Felpro version comes with the spark plug tube seal grommets. There is no magic in the Toyota version. For the two dabs of FIPG or RTV that you need doing the valve cover gasket, I'd also say spend the $5 on a small tub...

Re: 146000 miles. what should I do?

Thanks everyone. I did the coils. A little better but still idles rough. And, this morning, I started the car and it turned over many times before starting. Once started, the car runs ok other than the aforementioned idle. Since plugs are pretty new, and I just did coils. I'm thinking injectors and...

Throttle body and iacv cleaning problems

Recently, I decided to take on the IACV and throttle body cleaning. I pulled everything apart got new gaskets and even that new o-ring gasket for where the electronic part connects to the IACV. I replace those crappy star screws with Allen wrench heads. The problem is, when I start the car after the...

Re: Can someone confirm valve cover gasket?

if the valve cover gasket didn't come with new spark plug tube seals, then that could be way it's leaking. Yeah, the black permatex should be the oil resistant one. I thought the gasket was made that way to have those seals built in on the 1zz? Or are those o rings attached to the gasket not the se...

Re: what to plug throttle body coolant lines with?

First time I cleaned the throttle body, I didn't even use anything. Just angled the lines upward and kept a towel nearby. Cleaned it again last week and jammed a vacuum line cap I had laying around into each hose. Got the caps at AutoZone, I think these were what I bought. Thanks for the advice! I'...

Re: what to plug throttle body coolant lines with?

There are hose pinch-off pliers that would work. Alternatively, the mounting bolts for the throttle body fit perfectly in the hose and stop it from leaking. https://www.amazon.com/8milelake-3pcs-Line-Clamps-Flexible/dp/B012RW8PZK/ref=asc_df_B012RW8PZK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=1980...

Re: what to plug throttle body coolant lines with?

when you lose some coolant from doing this, doesn't air get in the line? How do I bleed that? any air that gets in should work its way through the system and end up at the top of the radiator, and then theoretically that air would be replaced automatically from the coolant reservoir over various he...

what to plug throttle body coolant lines with?

Can someone tell me what I should use to plug up the coolant lines to prevent leaking when removing throttle body\ iacv for cleaning? Is this a specific mechanics tool that's called something?

Re: 146000 miles. what should I do?

Idle rough? Have the compression tested. Possible spark plugs, coils, fuel injector, bad motor mounts? Any starting issues? Manual or automatic transmission? Thanks all for the responses. I appreciate it! I'll definitely do the coils and pcv. As a matter of fact, every once in a while it turns over...

146000 miles. what should I do?

I have a 2003 Pontiac vibe fwd with 146,000 mi on it. So far, the things I have done to it are all general maintenance spark plugs, oil changes, brakes, tires, air filter, etc. Outside of those, only the intake gasket (Toyota version to fix that cold soak cel) and a mass airflow sensor have been rep...

Re: High idle in park.

Thanks everyone. A reputable dealer is saying it's maf sensor. They claim when they unplug it while idling, the issue goes away. I'll let you know in 2 days when I get it back if that was it or not. **Update** 9/6/2015 It was indeed the maf. No problems now! Also runs better in general at high speed...

Thanks to everyone for the reply! It's is much appreciate! I checked vacuum leaks. None. Won't have a chance clean tb or iacv till Friday at earlies. Should I buy some gaskets ahead of time? Also, anyone have the torque ratings for tb and iacv? Also, I have a preliminary appointment pending for next...

Re: High idle in park.

Try spraying some throttle body/carb cleaner around the intake system. Start at the air cleaner and work your way to the cylinder head. Spray around joints and see if the engine rpm's increases. If the rpm's go up, you have a vacuum leak. If there is a vacuum leak causing your high idle speed, it w...

High idle in park.

The other week, I went to work, put my 2003 vibe base (115,000 miles) in park, and the engine idle shot up to 1,500 rpms and would not come back down! I had no idea what was going on. So I took it to my local meineke and they told me a few things. 1. My computer had not completed 4 of it's loops tes...

Re: A/C pressure in 03 vibe?

From this website: http://www.aircondition.com/tech/questions/82/ What static pressure should I expect to see when I hook up my gauge set. Each refrigerant has it's own static pressure at every corresponding degree in temperature. The important thing to keep in mind is static pressure changes based...

A/C pressure in 03 vibe?

I was recently at a valvoline instant oil change and they checked my a/c pressure. It was well over 100 and in the red on their gauge. I had them check it twice and show it to me to make sure. My vehicle was off at the time so I don't know if that's normal or not. I really would rather not replace m...
