Sometimes one issue can manifest itself by affecting multiple systems, which is why I asked. We have a lot of info here on Pontiac Vibes and its Toyota Matrix twin, but not a lot on a G6, and since a Pontiac Vibe is basically a Toyota, it will not have a lot in common with a G6. While some here have had water pumps fail, it seems more have had belt tensioners fail.

I doubt a disconnected light would adversely affect airbag function, but if you're worried about it, can you leave it connected but just tuck it out of the way somewhere inside the dash? (I don't know the 09 setup or if that's even feasible)

The 03 matrix parts catalog shows a different alternator for the 2ZZ than the 1ZZ, but shows the same starter for both.

I don't think the difference in power is worth the extra $40. But that's me.
