While some here have had water pumps fail, it seems more have had belt tensioners fail.

I attached a PDF of the procedure to replace the water pump on 03 Matrix XRS, should be the same on your 03 Vibe GT, if you decide to go that way

I doubt a disconnected light would adversely affect airbag function, but if you're worried about it, can you leave it connected but just tuck it out of the way somewhere inside the dash? (I don't know the 09 setup or if that's even feasible)

It's always a bit of a gamble with a used car. Seems like the car was about 10 years old when you got it, probably no way to know how it was treated in those 10 years. The 03 matrix parts catalog shows a different alternator for the 2ZZ than the 1ZZ, but shows the same starter for both.

I don't think the difference in power is worth the extra $40. But that's me.

My second vibe didn't come with a front bracket, I just screwed the plate directly to the bumper. Bent it a little in the middle, but never got challenged for that.

The inverter in the first gen is only rated at 100W, which is enough for some things. I needed an inverter for a non-Vibe, bought a 400W one for $30 from Walmart. However, if you want to reuse a Vibe/Matrix one, here is a PDF of the wiring diagram for the first gen inverter, from a 03 Matrix manual....

The Toyota part number for a PCV hose for a 2004 Matrix XRS is 12262-88602. Looks like its been superseded by a new part number. Should be the same hose for a 2004 Vibe GT. Should be, but I won't give you a money back guarantee if its different ;)
