I guess I am fortunate to have a 2005 AWD outside of the rust belt, my exhaust is still factory fresh at 279K miles. It is good to know that parts are available. For some reason many of my cars are odd balls when it comes to getting parts for them.
Just got my notice today, this will be my 3rd airbag replacement
The Buick dealer I have been taking it to has done a good job with them, the can hardly believe how many miles I have on the car until they say, "well it is a Toyota".
I just did mine, including the filter. I am going to drop the fluid and do it again this weekend. I have not been religious about maintenance as I should have been on this car, been 100,000 since I changed the fluid, was just a little dark but not burned, the pan was showing normal material. BTW, it...
Replacing the gasket is super easy, definitely worth the $15 for the gaskets and an hours time. My idle is much better and the throttle body is clean. Cleaned the original PCV and reinstalled.
I have owned my AWD 05 Vibe since new and it has just shy of 260,000 miles. I drive mine 100+ miles a day and generally it has held up well. The rear axle seals can leak and cause grease loss. I had bearing failures in the rear end but it was 160,000 miles. I have also had to replace rear wheel hub ...
Mine did this once the other week, I had a P0301 code and replaced the downstream 02 sensor, the fault has not come back. My intake gaskets have never been replaced in 259000 miles. Running wise it is as strong as ever.
I had the drive shaft out of mine this weekend to replace the transfer case seal. Fluid does leak from the rear end when the drive shaft is out. BTW, that drive shaft is heavy. Assuming we are both talking about 1st gen AWD, there should be no fluid at the connection point of the drive shaft to the...
Just to add a clarification to that: the AWD is always connected via the drive shaft, but the viscous coupling in the rear differential engages the rear axles only when the front wheels slip. Also, there is little chance of leakage from the rear diff by disconnecting the drive shaft as it is just 4...
The AWD Vibe is not a powerhouse and never has been. I have 258,000 on mine and we have owned it since new. The AWD system is a mechanical connection between the front and rear wheels. The AWD is actually 4WD, always engaged. The drive shaft is a 2 piece unit that connects to the rear axle and as st...
I replaced the valve cover gasket, changed the oil, found a heater hose leaking, replaced one hose, ordered the other. I drained the coolant and will change it. I pulled the shifter apart to replace the bulb, what a PITA. The easiest way to do it is to take off the shifter console, that thing is a p...
I will have to search some more but there is a way to check the ABS codes without using a scanner, you have to read the flashes. If I remeber right you use a jumper wire on the OBD port. The AWD system is full time, basically a 70-30% split, I can tell this when mine engages on slippery intersection...
We have about 8" of snow in this part of NC and this is really the first time the AWD/4WD has been put to the test. It did good, but the only problem was the undercarriage hitting the center of the track the trucks have made.
Every 5-6000 miles, the oil seems to be clean at that time. I run +100 miles a day and it is all highway so it gets very few non warm up runs. I am not picky about brands of oil for the daily drivers because the cars are always in use. My diesel truck is under a strict schedule because it is much ha...
On my AWD I used the DLC port under the dash to reset the codes. Take a paper clip and connect pin 4 (on the top) and 13 (on the bottom) just count the pins. Turn the key on, you can count the ABS flashes to give you the codes. To clear the codes turn the key on and hit the brake pedal 8 times in 5 ...
Long story I put the bearing in, reassembled everything and took it for a drive. The car is much quieter. 2 miles into the drive my ABS, TPM and Brake light came on. I got back home, tested a code 38 R/R wheel sensor. I reset the codes and tried again. The light came on in 1/2 a mile. The next day I...
Seal and axle are in, just waiting for the bearing, it should be here tomorrow.
The new axle nut is a 30 MM 12 pt, the old one was a 6 pt so I need to find another socket. The guy at the Toyota dealer was more than happy to sell me parts for the Vibe.
While working on the car I found the seal leaking for the right half shaft. I drained the fluid, it was clean and not low. I removed the shaft, pulled the seal and will go to a Toyota dealer early this week for the parts.
I am getting a tire / grinding noise from the right rear of my 05 AWD Vibe. After reading multiple posts and following http://forums.genvibe.com/files/imported/449877=13925-x040001.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I realized there had to be an easier way. The trick to rem...
Finally got around to doing some TLC. I changed the tranny fluid, transfer case oil, rear end oil and engine oil/filter, now she just needs some new tires.
I hate to admit it but of all my cars my 2005 Vibe AWD is ignored and lives a rough life. We bought it new and now has 115,000 Mi on it. It is my wifes daily driver. I change the oil every 3000 miles but ignored the transmission, transfer case and rear differential. The differential has been repaire...
