Re: Minor Vibe issues

Thanks for the feedback, folks (and happy to keep hearing it if anyone else has two cents to share). I'll talk to my mechanic and see what the options are for cats here. I've definitely seen some more affordable parts online... the quote I received was for a "proper" replacement. We don't ...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

Yeah, I may have mentioned it but we sat in the CX-5 and found the room so lacking that we didn't even bother driving it when we bought my wife's CR-V. I was really excited by the idea of the Mazda but in practice it just wasn't going to happen. The guy even opened up a CX-9 for us, and for somethin...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

The 22 Cross is on the Toyota website, lists starting MSRP for the base at $22.5K, for the AWD at $26.3K. Exterior dimensions are really close to a Vibe, 169HP to a CVT, MPG (city/highway/combined) 2WD 31/33/32 AWD 29/32/30 I think they may be showing up locally soon, or may have already and then s...

Minor Vibe issues

Bear in mind, I'm not much of a handyperson, myself, I've done some minor things on my Vibe, like getting down into the blower motor when a leaf fell into it while i was replacing a cabin filter (oh, the racket that imbalance caused) and disconnected power to the recirc/fresh air actuator after it w...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

I hate to double reply but on the stop-start front it's a feature that can be disabled on the CR-V, but you have to hit the button every time you start the car - it's not one you can set to off and forget. I haven't noticed it very much but haven't been driving in Eco mode yet (trying to learn our b...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

Nice update on your situation. You mentioned "winter" a few times but have no idea how bad or mild of winters you've encountered. Are you in a rust belt region? Great Lakes region? Any area where the Vibe is subjected to massive corrosion? Just curious how structurally it's holding up if ...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

We wound up getting unexpectedly quite serious about replacing my wife's Corolla this month. Our kids are growing and the Corolla continued to feel like it was shrinking (and no one except me wants to take the Vibe on a longer trip!) Did a bunch of tire-kicking and ended up buying a CR-V, which was ...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

We wound up sitting in a RAV4 last week as we were looking around (Hyundai and Toyota are right next door and we had to book my wife's service). Agree about the feeling of the interior. I haven't looked at spec sheets but I assume they're quite similar in measurements but the Tucson did feel much ro...

Re: Auto Show Hunters

As always, really interesting to read the impressions here, glad people are still posting these thoughts. We've been thinking about replacing the wife's still-young Corolla because our kids are getting older and tall and I would love some more cargo room (and I guess their comfort counts for somethi...

Re: Fisker Ocean looks to be Vibe sized

How do you guys like the Leaf? I think the electric space is going to be really interesting going forward, as prices come down and range increases (or solutions to mitigate range anxiety/better fast charging become more widespread). We did a big summer road trip this past year. It makes you apprecia...

Re: Crosstrek

Argh, the Prius V. It endured in Canada for a year or two after they quit selling it in the U.S., but it's not here anymore. I do hope they come out with another one. It was really high on our list, but we made a concession to thriftiness when we bought my wife's new car. Though even the non-hybrid ...

Re: Crosstrek

The Impreza wagon was on our (or at least my) shortlist when we replaced my wife's Hyundai Elantra Touring (we ultimately got a Corolla sedan, as it was at least a year ahead in terms of offering safety features as standard and therefore stood out as quite a bargain relative to its rivals). I know I...

Re: 2019 Prius V

If you ever go with the Forester, BTW, I would be interested to hear about your experience. It's a vehicle that interests me. One of the things I find about desiring a Vibe replacement (again, with my wife in a new car, I'm probably a few years away), is that everything that suits my wishes winds up...

Re: 2019 Prius V

I'm just seeing this now, but oddly there is a 2018 model Prius V in Canada. I doubt I'll be in the market anytime soon, but I hope they keep it up. I like it better than the RAV4 (for a bunch of reasons, including ride height and safety — I think I would rather not know the passenger-side safety ra...

Re: 2019 Corolla Hatchback Thoughts? Opinions?

We had a service appointment recently and checked out the Corolla hatch. The cabin dimensions seemed nicer up front than the iM. But the room in back wasn't great. Ceiling was still kinda low for me. The room in the hatch was seriously disappointing. It won't be on my shopping list. But I guess that...

Re: Keep'em coming!

Yeah, the Crosstrek is nice, too. Just can't justify paying a premium for what seems essentially to be a lifted Impreza. I really liked what I saw from Subaru. A shame our local dealers suck. Also, will be nice when more safety features become standard (across a lot of manufacturers). That really ga...

Keep'em coming!

Hey, I just wanted to say I really appreciate anyone who's a longtime member here taking the time to share their thoughts about new and different cars. I'm hoping I'm a few years out from replacing my Vibe (I've got a CEL from the catalytic converter, which I'm currently intending to ignore for as l...

Re: 2019 Corolla Hatchback Thoughts? Opinions?

I've been watching it, but based on what I see in videos and on paper, I don't think it's different enough from the iM for my tastes. We recently replaced my wife's car (Hyundai Elantra hatch) with a standard-issue, boring Corolla sedan. The iM never made our test-drive list, as she didn't like it. ...

Re: Scion Im

Thanks for sharing... I'm not sure what to make of your report -- I've driven the past couple of Mazda3 revisions and I really enjoy them. It would surprise me if any other vehicle in the class was as fun to drive. VW and Kia are out for me (personal prejudices that would be hard to kick -- well, on...

Re: Scion Im

A pretty uneventful life for my '08 (other than getting rear-ended a couple years back) means I've only come around GenVibe on occasion, but the iM brought me back a few times recently. I like the way it looks, and after some of the reviews I've read and watched I'm really interested to test it out ...

Re: What's the consensus on Seafoam?

I can't say I've ever had it done, but one of the likely overlooked maintenance items in the manual is checking your valve clearance. If you haven't done that for 174,000 miles, I'd look into it before trying an additive ;).

Re: When your Vibe kicks the bucket...what will you get?

Barring something horrible happening, I hope to be driving my '08 for at least another five years, if not 10 or more... love the car... I kind of imagine it might be my kids' first vehicle in 13 or 14 years. At that rate, I will probably replace it with something that isn't yet on the market. If I h...

Re: (jake75)

I don't know that there's anything that disappointing about the Elantra. I'd say the finish isn't quite up to snuff (a few minor issues with interior knickknacks and the door for the gas cap), but it's been reliable so far, and it's quickly catching up to my Vibe in mileage. The real issue for me is ...

Very sad to see it go, if they don't hang onto the Matrix. I always kind of expected to invest in a Matrix when I was done with my (08) Vibe... but I'm hoping that will be another 10 years, so maybe it's unrealistic to expect the model would still be around by then. Not really sold on alternatives. First of all, it's nice to finally register for this forum. I bought my Vibe last year and have been an irregular visitor going back to before I made the purchase.Anyhow, I've got an '08 Vibe that I've been servicing through my dealership in part to avoid headaches in case warranty service is requir...
