If you have mostly used the fob to lock/unlock the doors until now, then the key has worn with the ignition and the door locks remain in an unworn state. My 04 was so bad that when the battery died I wasn't able to open the door, and I had to have a locksmith look up the VIN and cut me an original k...
The fix turned out to be easier than I expected. Pop off the two hinge covers, remove two small screws, the two T-25 screws in the center of the seat back, and the two 12mm hex head hinge bolts. Once the two bolts are out the seat back drops a bit and you can slide the plastic cover forward a half i...
Thanks joatmon, I did see the first thread but missed the second. Once it warms up some I'll take another look. I've found a few parts diagrams that show the pieces but not in the detail you provided. The last couple times I've checked the local u-pull-it yard didn't have any Vibes, but maybe I'll g...
Thanks zbyers, I'll check it out once it warms up a bit here. It was below 0 yesterday and not much better today, and nothing good can happen when you start trying to pry on plastic parts when it's this cold.
I have three Gen 1 Vibes and four PCV valves. About once a year or every other oil change, I pull the PCV valve and put the spare one in. Then I spray out the used one with carb cleaner, let it dry and put it back on the shelf till the next Vibe comes up in the rotation. Not sure what the threads ar...
The driver side rear seat on my 04 won't latch in the upright position, and it feels like the release rod may be broken or disconnected. Has anyone here done any work on the back seats? How hard is it to get to the latch mechanism? Or am I better off trying to find a seat back in a junk yard? Is the...
My daughter lost both fobs for the 04 that I just bought back from her. I bought two new ones on Amazon for $25 and used the procedure above to program both of them on the first try. Thanks! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRNYQVT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I tried to make...
I have Cooper Evolution Tour 205/60-16 on all three of my Vibes, and will probably put them on my wife's CR-V in the next month or so. Best tire I've ever had. Trust me on the size, if you've been running 205/55 you really, really need to go to the 205/60. You can thank me later.
I realized today that I bought Frosty 15 years ago tomorrow, February 6, 2006. So far besides regular maintenance items I've replaced the starter and the struts, and that's it really. I bought it with 38k miles, so 158,000 miles of trouble free operation over 15 years. I wouldn't hesitate for a seco...
I got my babyback babyback babyback I got my babyback babyback babyback I got my babyback babyback babyback I got my babyback babyback babyback Back in 2015 I gave Frosty to my then 18 y/o daughter as a birthday/HS graduation gift. Last week she bought herself a brand new 2021 Chevy Trailblazer (hav...
I somehow lost one of the rear endcaps on my 2004 and bought a replacement at the local GM dealer. There weren't any Vibes in the local junk yard at the time. Some dealers have parts lists/schematics on-line that you can search.
We've seen a slowdown of 1-2 days here since maybe March/April, but it didn't get worse over the holidays and in fact may have even improved slightly. I mail maybe half a dozen things a year now, and most of those are self addressed stamped envelopes. Almost all of the bills I get via mail I've alre...
Sounds like you'd be lucky to get anything for a car that old with that many miles. Just to help out some I guess I could give you $1,000 for it, maybe $1,500 if the tires are good.
Out here it's pronghorn antelope, they're everywhere this time of year. In my yard, in my driveway, on the roads, everywhere. And they're remarkably stupid animals that don't just run in front of your car, they'll run straight into the side of it as well.
The squeal could be either a weak belt tensioner, or Jiffy Lube put the wrong size belt on. I'd bet that since he pointed the tensioner out they'll want you to replace that before they'll warranty the belt. Unfortunately you can only get another 28,000 miles from your Vibe, as they stop right at 299...
I would go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and print the recall information, and take it to the dealer service dept. If they continue to play stupid I'd find another shop to do the repairs and then submit the claim form for reimbursement.
The guys at my tire shop seem to really hate the Toyota 76 ft/lb torque setting, one even told me they thought 100 should be the minimum on all wheels. They swear they hand torque to 80 on my cars but I always find one nut per wheel that's at least 100. Never have had a loose or cross threaded one, ...
How about some updates on how has everyone been doing with getting this last airbag recall completed ? I talked to a Buick dealership about 10 days ago and they still haven't gotten back with me like they said they were going to do. (Except for some salesman who called back within 2 minutes thinkin...
My daughter's 04 base Frosty still doesn't burn any oil after ~195k miles. My wife's 12 CR-V has burned about a quart between changes (7500 miles) since we bought it new eight years ago.
Congrats on the new Vibe. My first Vibe was on 04 Frosty with Moon & Tune that I bought used in 2006 with 38k on it, it now has ~195k and still runs good as new. The only part I've replaced, besides brake parts etc, is the starter. It's my daughter's car now, and other than the grill it looks identi...

I run winter tires on both the 04 and 08. On Frosty because it's my daughter's only car and on Stealth cause it's an "extra" car and it's great to have the extra traction when needed. One set of Cooper Winterforce2 and another set of Firestone Winter-somethings. They're noisy most of the time, but m...
I spent over an hour trying to drill out one of a set of spark plug defoulers, to try that remedy. I have a drill bit large enough, but don't have a drill that will accept it. So its just bloody murder trying to ream out enough metal to get an o2 sensor in there. I've done it twice now and it can b...
Welcome to the forum and congrats on a sweet ride. All three of mine use Mobil-1 0w-30 and a NAPA platinum synthetic filter, with about a 7,500 to 8,000 mile OCI. I'd be perfectly comfortable going up to 15,000 if they were driven that many miles in a year. I personally would stick with the 6 month/...
Followup #2: Changed the oil in Frosty last weekend and noticed that it was leaking again around the sensor, so I went ahead and replaced it. Looked at it yesterday and so far it's clean.
Both of my pumps got broke in the last crash I had, as well as the tank. The pumps just pull out of the tank and can be easily replaced, just set a bucket underneath before you pull one and let it drain. I picked up the tank and two pumps for just a few bucks at the local u-pull-it yard. You can buy...
Yeah, the crewman in red never makes it back anyway, so no mask needed. As I'm sitting here my neighbor across the road is having a party with maybe 30 - 40 people over. Not a mask anywhere, and teenagers giving 4-wheeler rides to little kids. Helmets and eye protection are for sissies, just like ma...
On my 04 resume has never worked the first time, but if I set the speed again resume works fine after that. Set-Cancel-Resume=nothing, Set-Cancel-Resume again=works just fine. Weird feature.
Over the past couple weeks I've talked to more people than I can count who kinda didn't feel good for a day or two, or had a mild cough, back in late March or April and are now convinced that they had the 'rona and are now immune, so they don't even need a mask.
Bad gas maybe? You could try some Heat or other fuel dryer maybe, and check/replace the fuel filter. Sorry, I can't think of anything else that you haven't already covered.
I just buy Toyota Type IV from the local Toyota dealer. Since it's a 60,000 mile or more interval I don't really care about saving a few bucks on fluid.
I would just drain it and replace the gasket. You know it should take about 3.5qt to refill from a drain, so just drain what will come out and put 3.5 qt back in. Now you've done a second drain & fill and should be close to right on the money.
Just the outlet and harness would work, you'd just have to drill the right size hole in the console to hold it. Depending on the year, y ou don't have to drill a hole. My console had a cap over the hole. I yanked the power outlet from my 03 and just put it straight into my 07. I can't remember whet...
Not sure on the Matrix, but the 03-04 Vibe center console also has a power outlet. When I was looking for a lid I ended up taking the entire console and wiring harness. The wiring is already there under the console, you just need the harness to connect it. I also bought replacement hinges from the T...
The quotes I heard from Trump was that it's no worse than the flu - which is pretty much correct. Except that it's not even remotely correct. Dr Anthony Fauci today in congressional testimony: “I mean, people always say, well, the flu does this, the flu does that,” Fauci said. “The flu has a mortal...
Wyoming is reporting zero confirmed cases at this time, but I think that's mostly because there's no testing taking place. Colorado went from it's first case on March 5 to 15 and counting today, so hard to believe we don't have any here yet. Meanwhile Baghdad Bob, aka DC Donnie, says it's all just m...
Interesting chart. I think that based on the response so far from our government we'll be on the yellow curve within a few weeks. But hey, the best way to keep the number of reported infections low is to just not test anyone! It's working! https://ourworldindata.org/uploads/2020/03/Flattening-the-cu...
