2004...236,000 miles, uses no oil, cold fall/winter starts have rattley valves, starter grind.
2009...157,000 miles, oil user everything else is like new. Oh..except that steering rattle. hard braking will make it chatter also. And this is not a safety issue?????

I can't speak to legalities but I was once in a whiteout snow condition and the 95 bonneville I was driving was able to run fogs only and it was the only way to see three feet in front of the car. Add the low beams and ...nothing but white.

This is one I never got. My 04 snaps on in four places and the wiper can be lifted with the cap in place. The 09 has to have the cap popped up to lift the wiper and the cap can just pop off and lost. I guess I don"t get it. My intermitant wiper stalk has several clicks to it to change speed. Is this a fixed intermitant or an ajustable intermitant?

I know mine works the same as the 1st gen except that their arrows point opposite for fast to slow.

yep, short arm goes on driver side. I have the OEM 09/10 wipers on my 04 and the wipers have a 3/8 inch overlap. They must be a tad longer than the OEM 2004 wipers but they look soooooo much better. $12 each.

I can say that the cruise control downshifts and upshifts on my 09' 2.4, 5 speed auto are much much better. Barely noticeable. But as for 05-08, I just don't know. people have posted many times over the engine racing downshifts of the 1st gen,s. What bites is how fast it jumps from the passing gear ...

Both of my '04's did and do this. It is really irritating but seems to be a normal glitch in the system. The cruise control downshifting and upshifting in these cars is just cheap. What I do is pull the cruise control lever in to take it off cruise...it upshifts right away...then I pop it back down ...

rewatched the movie with wife. The Vibe comes in a bit earlier in the scene than I thought. Maybe at the 1 hour mark. It is a base with fog lights and maybe a sun roof. The wheels are the 1.8 ltr steel wheels and hubs though. I guess someone didn't want to waste those 17" alloys.

I was watching Arnold Schwartsenager's new movie, The Last Stand, and there it was...Arnold shooting up a black 09/10 Vibe with the 1.8 motor. It saved the bad guy. These cars sure are safe :) It's at the 1:12 minute mark.

It is a pretty good movie. Not always believable but good.

Depending on what tire you put on the rim...the cirumferance/ height of tire is limited to about that of a 215-60-16. I have 215-60-16 Fussion tires and when new they rub a bit on the molded mudflaps at full turn. Visually I wish I could go a bit bigger to fill the wheelwells but it is what it is. 0...

Also, crawl underneath and check where the front piece on each side attaches to the bottom ?undercover? They have push pins that break easily. If in a hurry you can zip tie them back together. Just having these break will push the front piece out on the sides, making it wiggle instead of being snugg...

When we went out to buy a replacement for our totaled 04 Orange Vibe I saw an Orange Subaru XV CrossTrek. It looks sporty only in the orange but it does look GOOD! This would be my Vibe replacement. Has black trim all over it.

What I've never understood is why they went form the older rear wiper assembly (which looks the same and lifts all the way up without having to pop pins) to this newer one that you have to futts with.

My 04 justs lifts on up, 09 has to have cover popped to lift. Identicle visually.

My motor is nowhere near as quiet as it was when new. I rode in my buddies Kia Optima (not sure what year but just before they got the really cool looks with the neat grill) and it is quiet as can be. Can't hear it or feel it running at idle. He has about 110k and mine only has 80k. 2.4 ltr.

I got my air bag module recall letter yesterday. Said they plan to put a filter in the wiring. Like a DSL phone line filter is what it sounds like. No fix yet for it though.

Nope, never got a letter. Being that they broke my 04 window switch housing when they did the window fix, glued it and never said a word...coming loose 3 yrs later...I have to think about letting them touch it.

Hey Caretaker, that's the noise I had. The starter was covered by the 5 yr/100k miles warranty. 2 different dealers verified the starter coverage. Still no grind after all this time since repair. I suggest you get that car to a different Dealer who gives a (hoot). They probably didn't try very hard ...

It's been fixed for 5+ weeks now and the sound never came back. There have been a couple times when it spun up so fast that it almost sounded like the grind but I'm sure it's just paranoia. The new starter spins up faster than the old one did. The repair sheet just said "internal failure" ...

I can't see it being good for the gear the starter meshes with. Over time it must wear on the teeth. Once the weather got cold mine was grinding more than not grinding on cold start ups.
