*Disclaimer* I'm not 100% sure the idler pulley is attached the same way, but I'll report back once I find out. At any rate, this is a good tutorial for a tricky job on the 2.4l engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eni7SNV ... x=1&t=627s
I was afraid of that, but I actually found a video on how to replace a power steering pump for a Camry that gave me some hope. My pulley is a "dummy" pulley where the PS pump would be and the bolt holes are slotted so you don't have to take them all the way out and the whole assembly can b...
(not the belt tensioner pulley ;)) The large pulley closest to the firewall where the power steering pump would be. 2009 Vibe GT 2.4l 2az-fe engine. The bearings are shot in mine and I almost got the bolt out before it bottomed out against the frame. Anyone know how to get the bolt out and/or any ti...
Thanks everyone. I ordered a new stick (and a couple other things to justify the shipping cost.) Looks like mine had just been broken since I bought the car 2 years ago
Interesting find AND good analysis. You do have the correct dipstick BUT somebody got real rough with it and snapped off the plastic latch end of it which contained the O-ring. Compare yours to mine which is in excellent condition. When properly seated into the tube, it is a TIGHT fit and requires ...
Just search "pontiac vibe oil dipstick" in your favorite search engine. It will show the Dorman dipstick and where the small rubber ring sits atop the stick. If yours is missing that rubber ring, it makes sense that oil could leak out of there. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-917-398-Engine...
Hey gang. First, I need to ask anyone with or familiar with the GT (2.4l engine) if the oil dipstick has or is supposed to have a rubber o-ring near the top. Mine is just all yellow plastic at the handle and has some play/doesn't really seal. The replacements I see for the Matrix 2.4l all have a bla...
I just replaced my air filter and it made more of an improvement than I thought it would. Apparently I had the "budget" Toyota/Denso filter in there and it was not only fouling my MAF sensor, but also throwing off the air/fuel ratio. Also, it didn't look dirty at all, but it was "shed...
Same here. New plugs/coils didn't change much, but I'm not getting random misfires anymore. Have you cleaned your throttle body? Mine is really hard to get to. I've tried cleaning it and the front of the plate that I can see is shiny clean, but it may be gummed up past there further down and/or on t...
The new coils were needed. One of them had a hole in it and the cooling oil had leaked out. I thought it was the valve cover gasket leaking, but it was from the coil itself. The new coils were a tad heavier too, so that makes sense. My plugs (one was oily from the coil leak) were also all white and ...
Oil consumption could be from a few things-some of which are treatable. I'd be using high mileage oil if you're not already. I'm a fan of Valvoline Maxlife for any kind of leak. If you're losing oil internally through worn/hard valve stem seals, the Valvoline will help. Liqui Moly oil saver is also ...
Any updates ? I'm replacing my valve cover gasket soon. It was replaced about 9 months ago, but there is oil getting into at least one spark plug hole. I'm also replacing my coils. I was reading (a lot) about very similar symptoms (low RPM vibration, inconsistent/hunting idle) due to high mileage c...
So my 2010 (2.4L, automatic) with 236k shakes at idle, when in gear. If it's in Neutral, does not shake/vibrate. Current thinking is that the torque converter could be causing it. Thoughts? Mine used to do that (smooth in neutral, shaky in gear). It could be the torque converter, but check the moun...
Yes, it's a tad more intense when it's cold, but the main difference is the vibration itself is louder. As it slowly idles down, it sounds like a subwoofer around 900 rpm and you can actually see the mirrors and steering wheel shaking. Oddly, I feel it more in the seats after it warms up. I can't sa...
According to my research, your engine does not have balance shafts, but it does have a harmonic balancer (crank pulley.) My engine has balance shafts, but no harmonic balancer. Both can and do degrade/fail over time. Both of our cars have a similar 7-shaped mount on the top passenger side witch is t...
That third post is from me lol. My engine does sit a little crooked. You can tell because the passenger side mount shaped like a backward 7 is crooked. I also had a mechanic tell me the engine is off by 2 degrees that he measured with a "scope"-I've still never seen a scope nor does anyone...
I've seen videos/articles on Toyota VVT systems, in which the solenoid and/or filter (tiny screen in the block) can become dirty/clogged and cause vibration, but no Check engine light or trouble code. Same deal with the Coil packs. I suppose Toyota doesn't want its owners to worry so their cars have...
*update*
I Cleaned the MAF with CRC cleaner. I Didn't think it would help, but the wire that faces the airflow was a tad darker/duller than the others.
Anyway, now at idle:
STFT: -0.8
LTFT: 0.0
Success!
Pretty sure Denso is the OEM MAF, given that this is a Toyota. Cleaning MAFs is pointless for the 2 microscopic specs of dust they may accumulate. If you are buying MAFs from eBay/Amazon, odds are you're not buying real ones. What says the MAF has died repeatedly? What is the CEL you are getting? B...
2009 Vibe GT, 2az fe engine. I've bought two Denso MAF sensors and they both crapped out in a matter of months. Cleaning them did no good, but replacing them worked for a while. The one in my car when I bought it was a Denso, but I've heard I should get an AC Delco or Delphi. I'm not made of MAF sen...
Does the vibration seem worse when the car is cold and gets better when the engine reaches operating temp ? Thats what I experience. I even replaced the engine cooling temp sensor a few years back....yeah....I have been dealing with this for quite some time. Like 3 years   Keep us poste...
Wow, you have described my issue exactly. around 1100 RPMs it DOES smooth out. Worst at about 850 RPMs and when cold. I recently had a bad coil that gave me a misfire code and I replaced the coil.....AND the center bolt for the front engine mount was completely loose. That did help. I ran a bottle ...
I feel your pain. I had the same issue when I replaced my mounts. Silky smooth at first BETTER than new. Then the rough idle returned after a month. I was so dead set I had a bad mount somewhere, I replaced them all a second time and no change  They are all OEM mounts. Needless to say I ruled ...
Thanks! That looks just like mine. I guess it's not the mount(s). I'm leaning toward it being the balance shafts or some kind of rebuild error. It could be the exhaust since I had a new cat put on, but I doubt it. Any ideas are always appreciated. There may be something I haven't thought of that can...
I didn't do them in that order. I replaced rear/driver side, then front, then passenger side last. I still don't know if the passenger side mount is bad. Does it bulge at the bottom? The engine was rebuilt so there are a lot of potential errors that could cause this vibration that wasn't there before.
This an oddly specific question. 2009 Vibe GT. Does anyone know if the top passenger side motor mount is supposed to bulge at the bottom? I'm talking about the black steel part that mounts to the frame by the coolant tank-the cylinder with rubber in it-is there supposed to be a protrusion/bubble und...
Hey everyone. It's four years later, but I'm just now having similar problems with my '09 Vibe GT. The air direction knob still works, but it's very hard to turn. Also, my temperature door seems to not be closing all the way, so I'm getting no less than 100 degree air unless the AC is on. I can't se...
My 2009 Vibe GT (2.4l 2az-fe engine) had been vibrating at idle since I've owned it. I finally replaced the last of four mounts (top passenger side torque mount) and started her up. The car was glass-smooth through all RPMs... for about an hour. Over the course of about four days, it had gradually r...
