Re: 03 Vibe 144k Oil Analysis

I got the car in 2015 and have since doubled the miles. I remember hitting 80k in 2017.

03 Vibe 144k Oil Analysis

Just thought I'd share my 1st oil analysis from BlackStone Labs and was wondering if anyone else has done one/has any thoughts on my analysis. As you can see BlackStone pointed out some excess chromium (piston ring wear?) in the oil and possible upper end wear. This is a daily driven year round Chic...

Re: Coolant disappearing 03 Base 136K miles

UPDATE: Topped off the reservoir yesterday around 4:30p. I also replaced the radiator cap. When I replaced the cap, the car had only had about 15 minutes to cool after my drive home. Today at like 11a I checked and I had lost about an inch of coolant in the reservoir. No puddles underneath the car. ...

Re: Coolant disappearing 03 Base 136K miles

The overflow reservoir. Thanks for the advice.

Should I top off the reservoir again? The bubble in the heater core should be filled now right?

Coolant disappearing 03 Base 136K miles

Good evening. I was idling at a light the other day and I noticed my heat would go out and then come back on once there was a load on the engine again. I immediately knew this meant I had low coolant. Went and got some coolant. Filled it up to max, ran the engine and heat, filled it back to max an w...

My thoughts are that it would be preventative maintenance. Like to prevent a problem before it arises.

2003 Vibe Piston Soak

03 Vibe Base Auto w/ 128k miles I recently ran seafoam high mileage through the crankcase and gas and just replaced the oil a couple days ago at 128,000 miles (Valvoline 5-30 synthetic blend high mileage). With the weather getting nice I was gonna do a piston soak since I have been told the 2003 1ZZ...

Re: High output vs. stock starter

Drum roll...it was the starter.

Thank you all for your help with my initial question. I'll make sure to replace the alternator when the weather is nicer and I can work outside.

Re: High output vs. stock starter

It was sunnier out today so I tried jumping the car to no avail. I had it towed to the mechanic later because I don't have a garage and did not want to replace a starter outside in the Chicago cold. I'll let you know what the mechanic says the fix is. Starter is still my best guess for the problem.

Re: High output vs. stock starter

Banging on the starter today didn't work so I suspect the battery is also done for, or at least out of commission in this weather. The battery was last replaced in 2018 I believe. The car doesn't have to be moved till Monday for the snow plow so hopefully the weather will get warmer by then. Is a st...

High output vs. stock starter

With winter in full force I have had to beat on my starter a few times to get my 03 Vibe Base working (127k miles). I was looking to get a replacement and found 2 different starters, a 1.6kW and a 1.4kW. This is the OEM starter as far as I know https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_2003_Matrix-Base-AT-2...

Re: 1ZZ-FE Valve Cover Replacement Tip

I am going to head over to ace and get some replacement bolts for the coil packs. Do you know which ones I need and which material they should be? I'm not positive but I am under the impression the torque spec changes with the bolt material used.

Thank you

This is also me lol. I know a replacement valve cover was kinda the last thing to try but it just seamed like the easiest to me while also helping me learn more about the car and the engine.

1ZZ-FE Valve Cover Replacement Tip

I'm using my daily 03 Vibe Base (130K miles) to learn more about working on cars. Recently I purchased a used valve cover from a wrecked Vibe. It looks like it is in good condition. I am replacing the PCV valve, valve cover, gasket (+2 grommets), and have gasket maker for the part between the cams a...

Red thread locker on ignition coils

Awhile back at 120k miles I changed my spark plugs on my 03 Vibe and I managed to strip/break practically every coil pack bolt as I misread a torque spec. In my panic I used red threadlocker to hold the stripped ones in place while I bought a new bolt for the 1 I broke. Will those bolts ever come ou...

1ZZ FE Exhaust Header Help

I have a 2003 Vibe and have been searching for new performance headers for quite a while now. DC Sports stopped making the headers for the 03 Vibe base. I found a used 2001 Celica GT header on ebay. Both cars share the same engine, 1ZZ FE. My question is, will a 01 Celica GT header fit on the vibe w...

DC Sports Headers hard to find

After emailing a bunch of companies and searching ebay I cannot seem to find a DC Sports THC 4405 header for my 03 base vibe as DC Sports has discontinued it. Does anyone know if the THC 4403 (Celica GT and Matrix XRS) will fit the 1ZZ FE? I'm aware both those cars run 2ZZ GE engines. I also do not ...

Re: 2003 Base Air box hoses help

No check engine codes. My car used to idle in the 2000s. I removed and cleaned the throttle body/iacv and intake manifold and the idle dropped to below 1000. Is it worth buying a new air box? Unless there is a way to re-attached the snapped off plastic outlet. Thank you for the help and your picture...

Thanks for the pictures. At least now I know what it is suppose to look like. I am curious where the other end of the hose connects and whether it is anything important (like it needs to be fixed).

2003 Base Air box hoses help

I was recently working on my Vibe and I noticed that there is a bolt missing and a hose broken near my air box. After looking at diagrams I cannot for the life of me figure out what it does or the part the hose is connected to. Any help is appreciated. The red circle is where the hose connects to th...
