I did the job yesterday and the Felpro gasket worked fine. I replaced the spring bolts too. $45 in parts for the job. The repair took less time than finding the leak.

I drove a cheap import back in the late 80s, with 4 lugs/wheel. I also made a habit of loosening the lugs after a tire change, and a couple of times I showed the service manager stripped bolts and had the shop replace them. Because of those incidents, the shop started using torque limiters.

It may be a combination of an evap system input fighting a plugged exhaust. Just a guess, I've never seen it or heard of it. If you deal with the CAT, it might get fixed.

They're M6 x 1 thread. I installed some Allen head cap screws. As it turns out, bicycle caliper mounting bolts are the right thread and length. I volunteer at a non-profit bike shop and we throw those away every day. So if a bike shop is closer than the hardware store, go there.
