Price may decide which I get (assuming my Vibe is not recovered - 3 weeks so far). My first car was a 323 and I put 80k miles on it - great basic car. I get S-plan Mazda pricing (at or just below invoice) and I am a new college grad ($500). Similar equipped Vibes are more expensive MSRP, but current...
I agree on the Mazda3 headroom issue, particularly with the sunroof. I'm 5' 10" and sit upright. Luckily, the 3 has a tilt/telescope steering wheel and seat height adjustment. I was able to find a good position where I was comfortable, could see the gauges, and reach the shifter and pedals, but...
Good discussion so far and I am interested as my Vibe was recently stolen. I am concerned about less cargo space in the 3. The specs (with seats down) are 53 cu ft for the Vibe and 31 for the 3. Can that be right? Overall EPA volume is 111 for the Vibe and 112 for the 3 - darn close. I have driven a...
No sign of my car yet. I think they total it after two weeks (few days from now). The bike was a Giant NRS 3, if I didn't already say.I was given a rental ($20/day) despite not having rental car coverage - somehting about 'loss of use'. It is a Mazda Protege and it drives pretty nice. I did stop by ...
LOL, I'm not offended! Funny, I'm more upset about the bike than the car (insurance). I may contact the local dealers myself and see what they have to say. I agonized forever before I got the Vibe. My first choice wasn't silver, but they were the only base model 5 speeds I could find within the stat...
BOTH were stolen, as the bike was in the Vibe. No glass broken and all my keys are accounted for. I checked KBB and NADA. Their values for an '03 retail are between 15 and 16k, trade-in is like 13k. I put some money down, so I won't be upside-down, but it still sucks.I think if someone just wanted t...
Last Thursday in front of my house middle of the day. Unfortunately, my mountain bike was inside and insurance won't cover it. Any clue on worth, just in case? '04 silver with 17" wheels, tint, hitch, power package, and 7000 miles.
You might want to be more specific, but I'll take a stab. 17" wheels can vary between 13 lbs and 30 lbs. Cast wheels (cheaper) get as low as 17 lbs from what I've seen. Spend an hour or so on tirerack.com and you will learn much. 18" is all about looks since there is a small loss in perfor...
For three bikes, you could use a hitch (~$80) and a rack (~$50-$200). I personally use a Hollywood 2-bike rack that works like roof-top carriers (fork mount and rubber rear tire strap). It was only $70 new off ebay. For the rare third bike, I use a fork mount block (~$20) in the left trunk floor tra...
The difference in reliability between the Vibe and Matrix was only 20%, but that was enough to call the Vibe 'above average' and the Matrix 'average'. I believe the previous post is partly true: Toyota owners expect more than most GM owners. Two other possibilities: they are built in different plant...
Consumer Reports is the ONLY unbiased resource for auto reviews in my opinion, but I also love reading edmunds.com, canadiandriver.com, and familycar.com. You can tell I love this stuff. I've received CR for about a decade, and my Dad did most of my life before that. As others have posted, their rel...
I also took the Vibe to Mardi Gras this year, although from Dallas. Only two of us were in my car, so two thermorests (camp pads) in the rear make a perfect place to sleep while travelling. We had a hotel room in town!
I was checking out the same question, and the answer is no. Some receivers can be used in the car and at home. Hopefully this changes in the future. My original post was for the yellow Vibe they use to show off their service
My base with 5 speed was adequate in the New Mexico mountains (much higher) with about a 500 lb load. I could even accelerate up some passes provided I downshift to 3rd, but I wouldn't attempt to pass anyone uphill. The AWD should also be adequate as the automatic will downshift to 3rd or even 2nd, ...
I thought I would add my new experiences to this forum.I used this same material for the floor and seat back. Works great, but I had to cut an inch of material from the rear so the rear door would shut. No big deal. I was in New Mexico last week at over 8000 ft (Dallas is 500 ft). So what right? The...
The Vibe handled wonderful in the snow and minus temperatures. A steady 30-40 mph wind made the trip to New Mexico interesting. Combined with altitude and hills, 3rd gear was sometimes required to keep at 70 mph!! Overall trip mileage was 35 mpg, so no complaints. The transmission and clutch were slu...
I had to load the Vibe yesterday for four upcoming xmas stops and a ski trip to New Mexico on the 26th. With the seats folded, there is still room for some big gifts I hope to receive I have fit some crazy stuff in the last few months: I've remodeled my first floor with 600 lbs of laminate wood floo...
No question the sump pump was at least 500 watts. You can buy converters that plug into the DC outlet for that many watts. Check ebay for lots of 'em and check the fuse for that outlet. I've used a 150 watt converter for years without issue in many cars.
I sold mine after 1000 miles and I was surprised to see the measurable wear, and most of that driving was during break-in. My new tires (HTR+) have great grip dry or wet and still have paint stripes showing on the rear. The HTR's even claim to be M+S tires, but I would be amazed if such a good perfo...
I was cheapo and just got the power package. Alloy wheels were on there as well, but I didn't like them. Strangely, a bumper protector and cargo net were in/on the car, and the salesman assumed they came with every Vibe.
I was wondering if the Vibe / Matrix was the first vehicle with this great idea. I laughed at the BMW internal bicycle mount accessory which will probably cost as much as a bike. Simple $20 fork mounts will attach to our tracks which seem perfectly spaced for two bikes as well.
I agree with the other statements. The Vibe will be worth less later, but I paid SO much less than a Matrix would cost. I am guessing the Vibe plant has a higher capacity than the Matrix plant, hence more Vibes are sold and for less money.
The combo of high pressure and skinny wheel will wear the center of the tires out fast. Your contact patch is also smaller and you are getting less grip, but maybe better gas mileage.
I used the $2003 GM card deal on an '04 in August. Maybe they're offered year round, but to different people. It sure is early in the model year to offer $2000 off!! If I remember, that was the max for a 2003 at the end of the model year. I notice the Matrix even has a $500 rebate.
They're on and look really good, but a nighttime pic doesn't do justice. The weight was 41 lbs each - the exact same as the stock 16" alloy / Continental combo. The chrome center caps may or may not stay.Tires are Sumitomo HRT+ 215-50-17. I've had these tires before and I highly recommend. Tire...
That's funny and possibly true, but most silver cars are out there because consumers demand it. It's a 'high tech' and easy to keep clean color I guess.
I settled on a color I didn't like since it was on the lot and my bonus GM card incentive was running out. I wish I could have ordered my exact car. Enjoy.
I did some research tonight and realize they (Thule and Yakima) have adapters for factory crossbars. All together comes in under $100 with the upcoming REI sale. Not bad. Locks are another $10 or $20, but I've never been convinced the ones on their bike racks are adequate.
Actually it makes a great rental car. I don't think we'll see too many of these outside of the mountains or the North. Rental car companies can buy Ford Foci, Dodge Neons, and Chevy Cavaliers for much much less. Enterprise once ran out of full-size cars here at a location near my work, and I was giv...
