DVD to MP4 converter

I just got a SONY NWZ-E436F 4GB Media Player and it is capable of playing .mp4 videos and I wanted to convert some of my DVD collection so that I can watch those movies on my new player.

Can Anyone recomend a good program that would be free that would do that for me?

Handbrake is good on the Mac, not sure if they make it for any other platforms or not.

Handbrake is now available on Windoze -- I guess enough Windoze users complained about not having it that they gave in.

Used to be Mac only. They also ported it over to Linux, works like a charm.

itunes should do it as well..

Now, if I could just find one to convert MP4 in to simple AVI and not have to burn(yeah, I know they are the same, basic format) my dvd player would play my whole collection from my HDD.. but it will only play AVI.. not Mp4.. lol..

Looks like a great program, but copy-protected discs would work.
in otherwords professional store bought dvd's will not work.

I use DVDFAB to rip from DVD to HDD and then convert with Handbrake. works great so far!
