Hello! I'm just wondering how many kms (or miles for our U.S. brothers and sisters!) you let rack up before changing your oil? I was told by my dealer that new cars can go up to 6500/7000kms. When I had my Ranger, I changed it every 5 thou. Right now I'm at 6800kms, but the dealer isn't open til tomorrow. Just wanted to see what everybody else does... Thanks!

honestly, i use mobile 1 full synthetic. changing it ever 7500-9000 miles. so far so good and haven't had any probs at all. in fact, i think i'm about due for an oil change now.
Since I do all highway miles (about 140 miles per day), I change my oil every 10,000 km (6214 miles for our friends in the States). I used to change my oil every 5000 km, but it got ridiculous. The manual says for light-duty highway driving, 10,000 km is recommended.
Every 3,000. But had to wait for this one though. I was out of town. Couldn't change my oil till I got home. Went 1000 over. It's coo though.Inder Singh

I do 99% city driving and about 6000 miles a year. I change the oil in all my cars when they reach 2500 miles and put in standard oil. When the car reaches 5000 miles the motor is well broken in and I switch to synthetic oil. Then I change with synthetic every 5000 miles after that.

Through a major oversight, I did 31,000 km (19,300 mi) of highway driving last fall & winter on a fill of Castrol Syntec. I sent in a sample for analysis and the results came back: "(no problems found) Suitable for further service." (BTW, I added 1/2 a litre in that distance) I have no intention of going more than 10,000 km in the future, but this result was food for thought, considering that Amsoil recommends up to 25,000 mi. for some of their products...
i destroyed an engine after i started driving from never changing the oil, i now use full synthetic (Syntec or Mobil-1) and change at least ever 4k miles, i try for 3k.

My Vette has a digital oil life monitor and I drive the car hard sometimes. I changed it when I got it in March with 53,700 miles using Mobile 1 and to date the monitor states 70% life left at 54,890 miles. The car is not driven every day either but when I do drive it, I drive it like a Vette should be. My point is every 8,000 using syn and driving it hard, you should probably be changing it sooner. An oil life monitor would make your head spin as you watch the % go down in relation to your driving. BTW, my oil monitor is dead on in terms of life, heard that from a few Corvette Master Techs and if I ever got it down to 20%, I would change it then. Do not think you will save a few bucks by using syns, driving it hard and waiting every 8,000 miles to change. The Vette, Mobile 1 and change it once a season not many miles driven per season because of the snow. My Vibe and PT, every 3,000 miles. Even though OEs recommend longer oil change intervals for some engines, fuel mileage drops as oil gets dirtier and I want the engine to be quiet running too. Never had an engine issue and will always change at 3,000 using non-syn oils.
I change my oil every 4,000 to 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 synethic. I have never been a fan of running my oils over 5,000 miles even through it's probably ok too.

Every 5,000 Km weather it needs it or not... Oil is the blood of your car. If you change it regularly your engine can last a long time. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Every 3,000 miles which IS 6 months. I use regular fossil oil. Dealer card with 10 LOF's for $119.95.
