P0741 and torque converter solenoid

Post by NotMyVibe »

Helping a friend fix his 06 Vibe. It's throwing a P0741 which apparently means the solenoid isn't locking the torque converter properly. I saw a tread mentioning that changing the fluid can fix it. Figured it needed changing anyway. No luck. Code came back. Where is this solenoid located? I looked around for a DIY procedure on it but could not find one. Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to change the fluid a few times to get all of the old fluid out. IIRC, a drain and fill only removes about 20-25% of the old fluid. Theoretically, if you do 4-5 drain and fills over the course of a few weeks/months, it would cycle out all of the old fluid. Doing that has resolved the P0741 for most.

Thanks! So I'm assuming don't change the filter again? Just do a drain from the plug or do a pan drop? Put like 1,000 miles on it between changes?

As far as I can tell, the solenoid is inside :( . I may pop the electrical connector and spray some electrical cleaner on it.

The solenoid is on the valve body inside the transmission. Here are a couple of links that may help you:

Be sure to properly torque the valve bolt mounting bolts and filter bolts.

yeah, a few drain and fills usually resolves it.
