My 5 minutes of fame

Published in the Wall Street Journal this week -

I'M PRO-CHOICE WHEN IT COMES TO GASOLINE

Responding to the Dec. 13 letter from Bob Stallman, president of the American Farm Bureau
Federation ("There Is More to Higher Food Prices Than Corn Ethanol"): The most upsetting
aspect of the government mandates to dilute gasoline with ethanol is that it denies me the
option of using 100% gasoline in my motor vehicle. I believe pure gasoline is better for my
engine and also gives me more hope to achieve the fuel-efficiency ratings for motor vehicles
issued by the EPA. Its miles-per-gallon numbers are based on 100% gasoline, a fuel you
virtually cannot find in the marketplace.

I guess when it comes to gasoline, I am "pro-choice." If ethanol is so good, let the farmers
sell it on its own merits without lobbying the government to essentially mandate its use by
unwilling customers.

AMEN!
I live near a farmer who grows corn for ethanol. His tractor runs DIESEL, the corn he dries is dried with PROPANE, and I am forced to search for 100% gasoline for my car!
I have nothing against ethanol as a fuel. I just don't like being forced to subsidize it when I prefer not to use it.

Congratulations, well done, and well said! I've managed to get published twice in the WSJ over the years.

I still have that day's paper, if you'd like me to snailmail you that page, pm me.

No WSJ clips from me but I did have my 30 seconds of fame just this past election. Agreed to be filmed for a Sherrod Brown commercial. It was only aired in the eastern sections of Ohio. I doubt it was aired in Columbus and certainly NOT in NW Ohio where I'm from. I have a copy of the video if interested :D

Jimincalif - I am a subscriber to the WStJ so have seen the "hard copy". It won't go into any scrapbook.

Jan. 17, 2013: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Tuesday said it would not reconsider a judicial panel’s decision to deny a challenge to the Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of gasoline blends containing 15 percent ethanol, according to news reports.
Food, auto and oil industry groups sued in 2010, arguing that using more corn-based ethanol in fuel would harm engines and push up the price of food and gasoline.
The appellate court decision upheld a three-judge panel’s ruling in August that said the industries failed to show they suffered harm due to the EPA’s decision.

Congrats.

Always a great honor for those of us on that side of politics.

I to have been in there a few times.

And yes, I agree with you on the "corn-fed".
