Who's repainted their Vibe?

Post by VforVIBE »

I'm thinking I need to get the front bumper and hood repainted due to rock chips and bugs that have eaten though the paint it's gone beyond touch-up paint. I was wondering what everyone has had repainted and how much it's cost so I know kind of what to expect.

I got an estimate to repaint my Vibe, and it was nearly $3000 from MAACO.

My 2010 GT's front bumper has some damage from curbs and a few holes in it courtesy of the prior owner. I got a quote to repair it and repaint it from Caliber Collision here in Houston for $300. IMO that is a good price. I would think to repaint the hood too would double that, plus some. Probably $750 or so?

I had the front bumper replaced do to a light accident. Of course they repainted it for a total of $800.00. That included the new bumper and labor. The new paint has held up awesome. No chips at all. The hood is a different story. Looks horrible. I've been thinking of repainting it also.

$400-580 range here for the hood.

If you go to the Nusolis website http://stores.ebay.ca/NuSolis?_trksid=p4340.l2563" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can get a full front end clear protective film kit custom cut for Vibes for about $40.00. This is a cheaper version of the somewhat costly 3M stuff. I'm satisfied with the quality.

It will take half to a full day to put it on the whole front end the first time. Doing it on a warm/hot day and with assistance are both advised.

Not only will this protect against most sandblasting and smaller pebbles, but if you put it on paint that's already sandblasted, it will fill in and smooth out the smaller but numerous pits in the paint.

What's best is to put this stuff on before the paint gets damaged, such as just after you've had the front end repainted. It will also protect the headlights, and you can just replace the film every few years. Nusolis sells the film in sheets if you want to apply it to areas not covered by the kit.

As a $40 diy project, it's hard to go wrong with this.
