Getting wires from engine to cabin

Post by jadoiron »

After searching the forums, I can't seem to find an answer/recommendation:

I'm installing a set of DRLs and want to have a toggle switch inside somewhere on the dash. The problem is trying to find a place to run the wire from the engine compartment through the firewall into the cabin.

Does anyone know a suitable location to do this? Or do I have to drill? Or is there an alternative method?

Thanks!!

the easiest thing to do is to take it through one of the existing grommets in the firewall (usually next to another bundle of wires) If you do drill a hole in the firewall, be sure to use a grommet in the hole & then run the wire. You don't want the sharp edges of the hole slowly cutting the insulation on the wire

here ya go...
it's hard to shove them thru there, but they'll fit
i think i used a screwdriver to kinda pry the edge up and hold it
then i fed it thru and a friend pulled from the inside.
it comes thru over the pedals

Awesome stuff.
Where does it come out on the other side? Below the dash above the gas pedal?

When I ran my wires through the grommet, I went from the inside with a LONG screwdriver and taped the wire to the screwdriver using electrical tape and just pulled it back into the interior (much easier than trying to jam in from the engine bay).. Also I ran the wire through the middle of the grommet, where the other wires are located to keep a good seal from the engine bay to the interior. oh and I used the same grommet hole shown above

Nah, i didn't forget about it.
I'm aware of the risk,
just didn't have room to shove that huge wire through the grommet :|
