Air conditioning temperature

Post by vibenorth »

Does anyone know what the optimum air conditioning temperature is supposed to be coming out of the vents. I am getting around 46 F with the fan on high.

40 to 45 is perfect. That's the temp the dealership will look for when they test the AC vent temp. If it doesn't reach below 45 degrees and maintain, there is a problem.

Like all A/C systems, proper output temps are based on Exterior Temps and Relative Humidity. With 40% RH and Outside Temps between 80 and 100, A/C output would be between 50 and 64. At 80% RH and Outside Temp between 70 and 100, A/C output would be between 49 and 75 degrees. (All US Farenhiet).

When was around 16 I used to be a porter for a dealership. I spent alot of time with the mechanics there and I know for a fact if they couldn't get the vent temp under 45 degrees no matter what temp it was in the garage they started checking other things for problems. Before the vehicle left even if it was 90 degrees outside the vents would be at 45 degrees or cooler. This isn't just started the car up though. They let it run with the AC on max for 5 minutes and then took a reading.

Your temps maybe right if you are sucking the air from outside of the vehicle but if you want the coldest air coming from the vents you'll be using recirculation which pulls air from inside the cabin. It then doesn't much matter what temp. it is outside because you are using the cool air in the cabin and pulling it back through the AC unit cooling it even more and then blowing in back in the vehicle again.

Output temps are for recirculation setting.

Then I'm sorry I don't beleive it. I have a Black car and live in Mobile AL. It regularly gets up in the 90s here and I just had my AC servied about 2 months ago. My AC will pump out around 45 to 50 degree air with the sun beating down on the car and it being over 90 degrees outside. That and also seeing then temps that the dealership got out of cars when they serviced them is why I say I don't totally agree with what your saying. If there is a problem with your AC even a small one you will have trouble on hot days. Something as simple as to much or to little refrigerent will cause a loss of cooling ability. Faulty sensors, low oil level in the system, there is a list of things that could be wrong but a problem free AC will give you lower temps then what you have stated.
