OBDII scanner

Post by KingKrab65 »

I am looking to purchase an OBDII scanner. I need a hand held version as I do not have a laptop or phone that I could hook it up to. I recently got a CenTech one but that didn't read the code. It only canceled the MIL, so I returned it.

Has anyone in this group had any luck with a particular model of OBDII scanners?

Thanks for the input!

Just get a used Android phone, or a cheap Android tablet at WalMart, and run Torque. Combined with a $15 Bluetooth adapter, you'll do more than a cheap scanner.

I paired my $5 ebay scanner with a $10 Bestbuy locked Android phone. This solution works great.

Check out a ScanGuage. I have one that is now in the third car since I bought it. Works great and gives 4 readouts at a time as well scans for problems. No phone needed.

Check out SlickDeals or KinjaDeals was able to find some very inexpensive OBD2 scanner there. Peronally since I use iPhone I've gone with WiFi scanner and OBDcardoctor app. The Scanner ran me $8 and the app is free you should be able to view live data and Error codes.

I have this one, except in Canada they are sold under the Autel brand.

I have been meaning to look into getting an OBDII scanner for a while now, so this post was just the boost I needed! I just bought the Cen-Tech one that MacGyver mentioned, for $22.99 shipped from eBay.

I ended up getting the Autel version of this from Amazon. It is a pretty basic reader and it actually gives me code info. It does not do the ABS reading but that's OK for now.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions!
