2009 GT vs. Base tail lights

Post by djan2000 »

Hello Genvibers,

We had a hit-and-run incident last night with our 2009 GT :x . Of course, there was no information left from the person who hit our Vibe. There is white paint smeared along the back right corner of the car (which doesn't look very good on a red GT), and the back right (passenger side) tail light assembly (outer plastic) has a hole in it (about 4" diameter) and multiple cracks throughout it. The lights themselves still work OK. I will likely need a new tail light assembly, unless there is a way to just replace the outer plastic.

So, my question...is the tail light assembly the same on a 2009 GT and a 2009 Base? The reason I'm asking is because there is a local salvage yard with a 2009 Base. I don't know if the tail lights are damaged, but I'm going to check next week, and if it's the same as our GT, then I may be able to save some $$ getting it from the salvaged Base model.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!

Man that totally S U C K S  YES, all 2009-10 Vibe tail light assemblies are identical so go check out your local salvage yard. You don't want to buy them new unless you got $300- $400 extra laying around :o Pics of the damage ???

I'll try to get a picture up when I can (the whole resizing thing).
The back right bumper area is dented in a bit also :( . This is very upsetting, especially without the extra $ sitting around to fix it (lots of unexpected medical bills recently). Oh well...This too shall pass.

The hole in the tail light plastic is larger now (since this picture was taken), and there are more cracks throughout. I'm guessing the very cold weather made it crack and break more after the "incident".
Is there a way to get the white paint off the bumper without repainting/replacing it? (because I don't think replacing it is in the cards at this point)

Well, the guilty party involved in the hit and run incident came forward early this morning. We'll be getting their insurance information, and hopefully this will all be fixed (not on our dime - whew!) Hopefully it all works out OK.

Ahhhhh, all better now. The damage was finally repaired a couple weeks ago. The person that hit our Vibe paid the auto body shop in cash, since they have insurance problems (too many accidents), and didn't want to involve their insurance company.
